Unhappy Shaking

Hey guys I had a set of xxr 521's installed and I've noticed my steering wheel has been shaking when I drive anything above 40 mph. Do y'all think that they didn't get balanced properly?

Sounds like they are not balanced.

Alright I'll go get them rebalanced. I've tightened down the lugs as much as I can but still shakes.

You might also want to get hub rings since these are aftermarket wheels, just to make sure they are centered when you bolt them on.

I do have the hub rings installed. I tightened the lugs down just now. Hopefully that fixed it. If not I'm taking it to Firestone and have them rebalanced :/

So just had my wheels re-balanced and found out that they were only off my 1oz. Crazy to think it would cause the steering wheel to shake that much.

Think about 1oz spinning at high RPM.

It can cause some vibrations quickly.

1oz is a lot in terms of wheel weights/balance

If I didn't fix it would it cause damage or wear to my tires?

could potentially cause premature failing of hubs, steering components, and sanity. it would take a lot of driving on severely out of balance tires to really cause any major damage, itll just pi$$ you off more than anything

Ok good to know. I only drove about 20 miles at most before I got them rebalanced.

After an extended period of driving on unbalanced wheels/tires, you will develop flat spots on the heavy side of the tires where it is basically slamming itself into the ground every rotation

Sorry to threadjack but i too am having problems with steering wheel vibrations. Had them rebalanced 3 times already. The tricky part is that it doesnt vibrate consistently. There are times when i can get up to 80mph with no vibration and other times where ill hit 60mph and it starts vibrating but will go away sometimes as well. The severity of the vibrations isnt consistent either. It varies i noticed with rougher roads creating the most vibration. What else can i do?

Tire pressure? Bent rim? Out-of-round tire? Worn suspension components? Did you have the wheels statically or dynamically balanced?
