Any update on this? Has anyone been able to find out what exactly was going wrong? Whether it's a hardware or software malfunction?

I had a problem with my transmission early in August. Only 6k miles put on it and 1st gear started having touble engaging. Along with alot of gears grinding when i downshift in manual or auto. Told the dealership my issue and with the first visit all thy did was recallibrate the ecu thinking it was a sensor. But I still had the same problems so i went back for a second visit and they told me i needed a new transmission. The dealership was pretty quick about getting the new one in and it was covered under warrenty. Bill came out to be about: $9000 for tranny and $11000 for labor.
Also, i never got any check engine lights and my car was bone stock and hadnt been on a track yet.

I thought the transmissions cost around 3k-4k? Can't believe they would really spend 20k to fix a 26k car though!

lmfao 11k for labour. **** i hope mitsu motors charges back that **** on the dealer. who do they have working on it? Forest Gump?

say it took 20hrs for labour. and i'm being generous. as i'm sure mitsu warranty labour does not allot that much to r&r a tranny. to make up 11000 labour thats a hourly rate of $550.00/hr

i'd hate to see what their retail door rate is if warranty labour is 550.00/hr

It's pretty obvious: $9,000 just for the tranny; $11,000 for tranny and labor. *shrug*

<sigh> I wish i could find the reciept to show you, When i saw it my eyes popped outta my head. Total cost for parts and labor was around 20,000 (i guess i shuolda clarified that). Also the reason why labor was so much is cause they kept my car for 2 weeks and i had to drive a 2009 Corolla rental (the rental was also paid for by the dealership).

They got the eplacement tranny in 3 days and it was going to be ready on th fourth day. But some idiot in the shop dropped the new one so they had too reorder one. (Tack on 4 more days to that wait). After they got the second tranny in they realized they didnt have the right fluid for it and had to order fluid (tack on a couple more days to the wait).
I wasnt worried much because of the warrenty, i knew i wasnt paying any out of pocket.

In my preious statement when i said they got the new tranny came in quick, i was reffering to my origonal 3 day wait, not the 2weeks because of idiotic mistakes.

Sorry, should have emphasized earlier.

Well, if you count the rental car, then yes, that can add up, but they should not be charging labor unless they are actively working on your car. They certainly can't charge just for having it sit around in their shop.

By the time the warranty runs out on RAs / EvoXs with the SST tranny, aftermarket/tuner shops would already have figured out how to work on the transmission and repairing/replacing the SST could be much cheaper... hopefully.
