Next upgrade: UR Catback? or Intercooler?

Hi guys I'm trying to decide which way is better.

My car has

HKS drop in filter
HKS SSQV recirculated

Basically it's all stock

I don't know which will give me more gains

UR Catback system with resonator and mini muffler.

http://www.ultimate-racing.com/Produ...lCatback.shtml

Or UR/AMS Intercooler.

http://www.ultimate-racing.com/Produ...-09_FMIC.shtml

http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/a...tercooler.html

There's also the price difference.. Catback system being more expensive.

Catback system $948 with resonator and mini muffler

UR intercooler being $649

the prices are without shipping

I'm new to modding so please don't hate if it's a newb question.. thanks lol

If there is any other mods I can do without tuning the car feel free to give me some suggestions.

I did the UR cat back and I am happy,my next upgrade will be a larger IC and new UICP. The tune will come after the IC

Six of one and a half dozen of the other I guess, since neither needs a tune and the power gains are similar.

So pick one and fly with it

Cheers

Your going to get both sooner or later. Doesn't really matter. I would do exhaust first so you can starting hearing your car.

I agree...go exhaust first. You're likely to see bigger gains with the exhaust over the IC.

If you go the intercooler route, I'd get some hard pipes while you're at it.

Thanks for the info guys.

Does the hard pipes make a whole lot a difference from the stock pipes???

If I do go with the catback system I think the UR catback will delete the cat.

What do you guys do when it's time to do the emission test? Do you guys just swap it out with stock mufflers?

I'm too lazy to go on and off lol

You'll need to check to see what the emission tests are like in your county. If they just do the ODBII/CAN check, then you are fine as long as your car has not thrown a CEL recently regardless of if you have the cat(s) or not. However if they do a sniffer test in your tail pipe () then you may fail with no cat(s).

And unfortunately with these things there is no guarantee that you will or will not get a CEL for various parts like that, so it's kind of a crap shoot.

It was my understanding that all of the catback exhausts that are available for the '09 Ralliart, including the UR CBE, do not delete the cat. They contain the muffler section and the midpipe.

If you wish to delete the cat, you will need to purchase and install a Test Pipe in addition to the CBE.

Regardless, if you did replace the cat with a test pipe, you can just unbolt the test pipe and replace it with the OEM cat and you should pass emissions and inspection with no problems.

Not a whole lot, but throttle/boost responds quicker as they don't expand/contract like the stock rubber ones. You'll also hear more engine noise as the stock rubber pipes insulated the sound more.

If you keep the stock cat you won't have any problems with emissions or a SES light.
A high flow cat still gives you a SES light. A test pipe will always give one.
You need to add a spacer to the the 2nd O2 sensor in order to trick the ecu on how much fumes its reading.

Also, I don't know if UR still does it, but their test pipe for evo's have the O2 bung already spaced out. I used to use it on the EVO. It worked great!

On their website it says that the system has an option to put the resonator and the mini muffler on the 2 piece midpipe section. So the midpipe and the testpipe is completely different from each other?
If it is different, I'm guessing that the testpipe goes before the midpipe then to the exhaust?

Yes, the midpipe and test pipe are 2 different parts.

You are correct, the test pipe is before the midpipe and the midpipe is before the muffler.

I would go with the intercooler The intercooler will have decent gains, depending on the thickness you go with. The exhaust system provides minimal gains on the stock X turbo.
