Engine knock

EDIT: dealer called me and said they found the noise coming from the timing Chain. It may have caused valve damaged they said, ill know by the end of the day.. Sad day indeed

EDIT 2: dealer said the chain was within spec and cant find the problem. so they told me to drive it till it breaks or gets worse .

Hello guys.
i have a 09 RA with about 11000 miles.

any ways there was a strange knocking coming from the Engine bay. I let a few of my more mechanically inclined friends then i and they all thought it sounded serious. (one of them used to build Dragster Engines)

The best way to describe it was past the constant clicking from the injectors there was a floating knock. a constant knock followed by a lower knock just about half as fast as the injectors.

Any way the dealer has no idea what it was and is keeping because the manufacture wants to run some test. i'm not flashed so i cant imagine them trying to screw me but we will see, and i will post as soon as i find out what it was or is. (i thought it sounded like a rod. (have noticed a slight decline in power which is strange considering its still cold here. well cold for SOcall)

but if you have ideas on what it might be let me know.

is it rotational? does the knock increase with rpm's?
does it sound worse under load?

you've checked the obvious like oil level etc?

i just had the oil changed a few weeks ago. and the lvls where fine.
i think it did but i had to be outside of the car to hear it. but the engine did seem to sound strange at around 4500 rps like a vibration through the engine bay

if they tell you belt, theyre lying. the motor is chain driven. if it is from that area, timimg chain tensioners can give a knocking noise, but that all should be covered under warranty regardless, so good thing for warranty and your general lack of mods i suppose

thats ****ed up. so instead of doing a proper job they'd rather you risk major damage if it is indeed something with the motor.

Run it hard.. very hard, and when a rod shoots through ur hood, as ur coming to a stop drive into a fence. then sue ur stealership for a lack of concern to ur problem. If you win, you get an evo (and buy me one for the idea) if you lose, ur covered under warranty and you get a new engine(hopefully)

Yeah, seriously. Liability being what it is these days, you would think that they would invest a little more time into coming up with a better response than: "It should be fine." If it sounded bad enough to cause major concern in the first place, then it is definitely not fine.

The impression I get from the dealer I've been to is they pretty much don't do anything proactive when it comes to warranty work. It all has to fail miserably before they will do something about it. You might be able to get away with that approach for little things but not for something major that's a huge risk. Not mention how inconvenient it is to go back and forth on the problem.
