Do hi-flow cats really work?
Do hi-flow cats really work?
What's your experience with some of the aftermarket accessories available? Are these any better than the stock RA cat? Also what's the difference between a metal vs ceramic substrate cat?
metal i believe cost more than ceramic and the ceramic has more flow, that is why they put them on our rallis to save money on the cost. You dont need a metal one, was told at a muffler shop were I had work done @ that they restrict flow as soon as it leaves the down pipe, so I just ran Catless instead...

I didnt think there is any difference between a metal cat and a ceramic cat in terms of flow. I thought the ceramic just takes heat alot better than metal and is for higher heat applications such as a turbo etc.

Thanks guys. Someone I heard said that there is little difference between stock cat flow rate and an aftermarket accessory, confused me a bit...

call U.R. talk to daryl about it. then order the UR cat and down pipe.
and audibly you will notice some difference. If you plan to keep the rest of the exhaust stock it wont get much louder.
And the sound issue is because I don't want to bring too much attention on the car.
I have a UR down pipe, UR high flow (steel) cat, and stock cat back exhaust on my Ralliart. Sounds pretty close to stock, except I hear the turbo whistling more than original. I had a complete UR turbo back, with the extra muffler (total of 3) and extra resonator, and it was too loud for me to drive, even after I put in $700 worth of Dynamat, Dynaliner, and Dynapad. The drone gave me a headache. Actually two. The one between my ears and the one sitting in the passenger seat (my wife). http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...milies/lol.gif Hence the original cat back went back into the car.
Alright, that does it. At some point, I am going to buy a HFC (Metal Substrate). I already have a pretty accurate anemometer and work with a reputable shop most of the year with an AWD dynamometer. We are going to get some before and after numbers. I am willing to bet that these things aren't as "high flow" as people think that they are. And if they are, myth busted.
