GFB Stealth FX BOV review
GFB Stealth FX BOV review
Hey guys,
So I recently purchased the Go Fast Bits Stealth FX blow off valve and had the chance to install it today. Installation was a cake walk, taking roughly 10 mins. If you have swapped out your BOV before you know how easy it is, take off snorkel, loosen clamps, pull and swap. Now, after installation came the adjustment process of getting the blow off valve to the right spring setting and the right ratio. This was also very easy and explained very well in the instructions included with the part. This bov is adjustable in a couple different ways, you can adjust the spring, the vacuum nipple rotates 360 degrees, and then comes adjusting the noise or how much is VTA and recirculated. I set mine at a conservative 80/20 and let the car run to make sure after revving I didnt stall or have any rough idle. No problems there and hopped in and took the car for a spin.
Right off the bat, the car held boost a LOT better, so much better in fact that I was consistently hitting high boost at relatively low rpms, and actually holding it. With the stock BPV it took a lot more weight on that pedal to get close to those numbers and not to mention much higher RPMs. Then comes the noise. Surprisingly, the GFB was pretty loud for the conservative setting I had it on. I had the trumpet accessory on at the time and decided to take it off to get an idea what it sounded like without it. The result, was not a lot quieter but enough that I wouldnt have to worry about bursting pedestrians eardrums while driving by.
Overall, I am very happy with the part, it most definitely makes a difference in performance and holds boost really well. The bov itself is solid and put together very well. Fitment is just right, its not sticking up too much and causing clearance issues. If anyone is interested I would be happy to take some short clips of what the bov sounds like from inside the car with windows up and down.

Ok, enough said. I will get some video of it tomorrow and post it up. After driving the car a little more, I am very happy with it. The car is running great and it is holding boost like a champ. Will update this thread with vid soon.
I didnt get it from the Lancershop. I bought it from another EVOM user that had it on the car for like 500 miles or something and is going back to stock to trade up for an Evo x. I am little weary to order from those guys, it seems like so many people have had bad experiences. But, then again, its always the guys who are pissed that take the time to write a review.
I attempted to get clips tonight using my phone and though you can hear the bov, its not very clear/my phone sucks. I gotta find my camera and I will post them up.

just a thought, because professionals in the BOV/BPV world have chimed in on this...but if you have the BOV 80/20 isn' it leaking air? When you say it holds boost well, 20% of it leaks at any given time right?
Great review, sounds similar to the other reviews that I've heard for this product as well
I just so happen to have two of the blue units on clearance for $249.99 shipped if anyone is interested (they will only be offered in black in the future) check them out here.

I havent experienced any loss of boost. As I am sure you already know, 80% is recirc, 20% is vented. That 20% is vented after letting off the pedal. Its not leaking at random, just when I let off the pedal and out of boost. I havent had any issues, stalling, car running off, etc. If there are any experts that want to chime in I am interested.

Very crappy audio, shot last night, shakey camera, etc. Best I can do at the moment. Oh and keep in mind, I have it on a very conservative setting as far as whats vented and recirculated. I havent tried say 50/50 or anything more than what I am running now, but it would be VERY loud if I did. If you are one of those guys that is really into the sound of bov, for whatever reason, this would be your best bet. Personally, I feel the car runs better with a more conservative setting such as mine or even more recirc than that 90/10, but to each his own. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgqOzgafPRg

Well you might encounter some compressor surge while adjusting it. I didnt, but if you do, all you need to do is turn the top part and your good. In the detailed instructions, they have certain scenarios which may or may not apply to you, but either way, very helpful. Very neat that this bov is adjustable in so many ways. Tightening and loosening the spring does not change how it holds boost or how much boost it can hold, it changes how long it takes the piston to close again and how much boost it takes to open it. I am learning more about it as I go, but love the fact that everything on it is fully adjustable. I will get some better clips up when I am able to find my camera, just moved so it could be awhile. I am also thinking about putting up a clip showing the difference between how this holds boost compared to the stock BPV. I would be using a Cobb AP boost pressure sensor to do so, obviously its not going to be an extremely accurate way of showing this, but you will be able to see a difference between the two throughout the RPM band.
