What kind of hole are we talking about in the piston? I broken through one or a melted through one?

Whats the difference between a 4b11, and a 4g63? Oh yeah you don't know. 4b11 isn't Garbage, the stock pistons and rods aren't that great. The motor it self built right is a great motor. Maybe I should take your car and buy you a sunfire Me and josh know how much you liked that car.

Just curious. If it sucks so bad why do you own one.

To the op. Those cylinder walls look pretty rough, you could possibly do a drop in build if the walls aren't destroyed

That problem is tune-related. It looks like it has run too lean & pre-ignite. I've had the same problem myself, but on that motor I didn't have more than 1 other cylinder to rebuild. The question is if your tuner messed up or if you increased the boost or something like that which made it run lean.

She (we) actually own two. I just don't think she realizes her car has a 4b11 in it

What I think may have happened is the backpressure and heat from this happening may have caused some damage to the piston and once he found out what was causing the boost issue, it may have already been too late as the damage may have already been done.

It is a bad situation since he ended up switching manifolds because of the metal part falling off the other header internally. Really poor quality control from the original manifold.

That plus the previous 30psig spikes he was seeing for a while I'm sure were part of it.

Not so sure about that.. pre ignition typically is a result of something hot enough to act like a glow plug and ignite the mixture well before the spark... this typically melts holes not breaks off chunks.

OP.. It's tough to tell from the pic the condition of the piston top.. how do the other pistons look? It sort of looks like a lot of det was going on in that cyl but it could just as easily and more likely be piston chunks bouncing around in the cylinder that made the pit marks... easy to tell if you have the piston in hand not so easy from pictures.....

What fuel/injectors were you running and what cylinder # was that?

There are so many variables in this. How do you know an injector didnt fail? How do you know a pump didnt fail? FPR line blow off? Tuning is always the easiest thing to point fingers at.

As it stands the metal in the turbo inccident happened on the stock turbo as well he had said when he was here. Lets for a second imagine that the car cant turn the turbo. The car is not pulling in much air as at that point the turbo becomes a restriction since it is not moving and not drawing air in. So what happens? Well for one since load isn't increasing due to the turbo not drawing in air timing values are super high since they are not moving far into the timing map. Also pressure and in cylinder temps increase since the car is not moving much air in AND not much air out. So with in cylinder temps super high you dont think it could cause a lot of damage?

We are very meticulous when we tune I can assure you of that. We dont push cars hard and anyone that has been tuned by me or knows me knows this. I do NOT push cars to the limit.

I hope this helps.
