SST fluid change question

Ok Yesterday I went to the dealer and had the sst drained and filled and expected them to change the filter as I had asked them to do but.... All they did was drain the trans (not the cooler) and fill 5.8qts. Thank god I had been bugging them to see the old filter cause after arguing they finally brought me to the car and that's where the tech tells me that they don't change the filter until at least 50k miles (26k now) I demanded that it be changed (since im paying for it) and the tech continuously tells me no no no u don't need to. So I left there with a simple fluid change and no filter cause they didn't have it in stock.
Now my questions are: Should I buy and change the filter myself or wait till the next trans service at 50k ? Can I, since the fluid was changed already will I have to add fluid after ? And does it come spewing out when you pull the filter out ?

I don't think it will spew out unless you start the car since the pump will not be pumping the fluid to the filter.

I would recommend changing it cause it is most likely really nasty.

That's messed up. You pay for service, it had better be done, period point blank. I would raise hell.

^yes, but not much.

Swap it first, drive it, check it. (they may have slightly over-filled )

WARNING!!!! If you take off the filter with it full of fluid it will drain A LOT of fluid out. When i did my flush i took the filter off firts and it drained a good amount out of there.

plus there's no way to casually check the fluid level. There's no dipstick, the only filling points are a couple of screw-in plugs under the intake. You can see anything in it either to even see if there's stuff in it except sticking something in there. We just changed my buddy's fluid and you have to measure how much came out and replace it with the same amount.

IIRC there is a bolt on the side of the case somewhere to remove and you fill until fluid come out of it. I think I read that.
