Remove Rear Bumper Sportsback

In my need to install rear parking sensor rig had to remove rear bumper and took a couple of photos and thought I'd share the disassembly.

Ok before you start you will need :

Racket, 10mm socket .
Philips (star) screw driver
Standard screw driver
very small screw driver (jewelers).
Torch

Remove the 8 x 10mm bolts .

Turn the 2 screw clips gently about a quarter of a turn and the center pops out, then just grab them and remove.

The other clip remove by putting pressure on the topside pushing the pin down to pop the clip.

Use the small (Jewelers) screw driver to pop these 2 out which are located next to the exhaust outlets.

One clip behind each of the rear tires. Gently tease the center out with the screw driver as these ones tend to get a bit of grime on it making them harder to remove.

Now the scary bit. Pull the left and right side out at the seam to release bumper off the side clips and all is left to do is go pull the bumper straight back.

FYI the front and rear parking sensors I am currently installing where from http://www.parkingdynamics.co.uk/ let ya know how they go.. These ones use a self adhesive antenna strip glued to the inside of the bumper.. no round stupid looking things.

On the rear bumper in Australia there is a blank 4 sided polygon plate that is installed to replace the rear fog lamp (rear fog lamp is a requirement for roadworthy in England), not sure if yours has the fog lamp but that panel is easy removed once the rear bumper is off. That’s where I installed my rear camera (so if I stuffed it up replacing that panel is cheaper than repairing the bumper).

To tap power I connected it to the reverse wire which is accessed behind a plastic panel left of the rear passenger seat (looking from the rear - aka passenger side in oz or drivers side in USA). The reverse wire was white with silver bands.

Basically all the plastic panel bits pull off if there are no visible bolts/screws.

Ill see if I can locate some photos. I think I took some during installing camera and the day/night camera I installed I purchased on Ebay for around $40aus.

Do those sensors work for situations like this?

Remove Rear Bumper Sportsback-0qrtq.jpg

I'm deathly afraid of hitting those with a lowered car.

Few people been asking what is the part number for the tow bar (hitch) so after a bit of a wait was able to get it from a copy of my purchase invoice due to it being fitted as part of the purchase so here are the numbers :

Towbar M (Hitch) : R936308
Towball Package : MIAW338480

note : these are the genuine Mitsubishi part numbers..

That def looks a little diff than my US sedan rear crashbar.. But, I haven't popped the bumper yet. Been wanting to see if theres any hope for an aluminum crash bar swap, like I did up front.. Prob gonna req custom brackets.

Rear crash beam is basically a direct swap w/ JDM, same as the front.
