LED strip DRLs

Guys, I would like to install a set of DRL LED strips kind of like the Audis. Also, I have recently installed an HID kit for the low beams. So the normal DRLs are turned off now.

Any ideas how I would go about doing so?

couple different options. there's the stick-on style with the smd leds where it has an adhesive backing on a flat strip you can stick right onto the outside of your headlights, or you can "bake" the headlights and open them up and attach an led strip of your choice to the inside housing and go from there. i'm doing the second option on a set of galant headlights i've already taken apart and blacked out. i'll put up some pics once i'm done if you like.

I am going with the stick-on option. Its quick and easy ... just have to use a really good adhesive. However, it is the wiring that I am a little confused about. I am not sure how to properly wire the LEDs so that the normal lowbeams would work when I turn them on via the on/off switch, but the LEDs would light up when the car comes on.

I had purchased a separate harness to turn off the DRLs. Now that I think about it, I do like your idea about hooking them up with the parking lights better than my original idea.

you are gonna burn out your ballast really fast like that....

the reason y your DRL is off is because there is not enough power to boot the ballast... meaning is always in boot mode which is like you are trying to start your car and just holding the key in the start position and burn out you starter...

just power on the light all the time... and it will save you on the headache trying to figure why you ballast blow out in 3 months...

I had bought the Xtreme Digital HID Kit from http://www.kbcarstuff.com/. http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Xtreme-Dig...-Kits-s/21.htm

After I installed the kit, my low beam would still stay on. So, I had to purchase a separate harness that would turn off the drl so that I can operate the head lights using the on/off switch.

yeah, i'd have to say the only kit for drl disable i would trust is jrox's version only because the wiring is explained completely and i personally have had mine on since day-1 with the aftermarket hid kit over a year ago with no problems whatsoever. the e-bay variety, from what i can tell, are set up a bit differently and since i dont know the exact configuration, that's why i dont trust it. haha.

I have two sets of harnesses .... 1) HID kit from here ... http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Xtreme-Dig...-Kits-s/21.htm. I have thee 6500k & I think I have the 9006 for the low beams. Then I noticed that the low beams remained on the whole time the car was on and was not working with the headlight switch. So I purchased the 2) DRL Bypass harness from a guy name Jrox [http://cgi.ebay.ca/2008-09-10-Lancer...item2a07948d8d].

I was also doing some research online and found a bunch of posts where people have tapped into the parking lights to hook up the LED strips. I was just going to do that unless there is a better way. I probably don't want the strip to stay on the whole time the car is on. That way the strip would last longer.

I agree. Jrox's harness works. I have it hooked up for two weeks now and works like a charm.

I also have Jrox's wireing harness. I bought it last November. The only thing is that you have to do is seal the relay up some how. Either with electrical tape or shrink wrap. The relay in my first my first harness rusted and then went out in May. It was hidden in a pretty dry area. So I'm just going to make sure I make it water tight this time.

as far as tapping into the corner/parking lights, if you do that and you have jrox's harness installed, then obviously everything would be off in the off position "0" and the led strip would be on in position "1" and "2". if you wanted to have it on or off at any other time, you're best off just tapping into an accessory power source, grounding to a body-bolt, and adding a separate control switch
