How To: Sportback DIY Trunk Mat
So, I didn't want to pay $50+ for a trunk mat for my new 2011 Sportback so I poked around the internet and found an article that suggested a $18 floor mat from Home Depot. Turns out that it's a perfect fit and there's enough left over to stash on top of the spare tire for use when the seats are folded down.
I used an Enviroback Charcoal 60 in. x 36 in. Recycled Rubber/Plastic Rib Door Mat.

Woot!
I am ON IT! Thanks!
I made one from low density foam with the predicatble results [rolls eyes]
BUT the foam has been great to further sound insulate the car for cheap

Hey Splattj,
I picked one of these up and left it in the back rolled up overvight. Was planning on cutting it to shape this week. This thing gives off a pretty strong odor.
Did yours ever go away?

Hey Neo,
Mine came delivered in a cardboard box that had some holes in it and only had a very mild odor. I can't smell it at all after two weeks and I don't use any air fresheners in the car. I'd say leave it unrolled outside for a day or so and it should dissipate.

Since I will be using the rear area to transport a dog over 2 States I wanted to use the left over peice to protect the rear of the back seats. In order to keep them upright I decided to use the head rest to secure it. This is only a temporary so I was not after looks.
What I used:
1 Blade
1 Silver Sharpe
20 minutes of my Saturday
First pull out all the headrest and drape over the carpet and mark where the holes are for the headest with the silver Sharpe.

Then use the Blade and cut the holes in the carpet that you marked

Once all the holes are made you can push in the headrest post into the holes.

Push the headrest back into the rear seats.
