Ralliart + BaseFlash + Boost Pill Upgrade = Tons o' data

We had a 2009 Ralliart in the shop in January that we tuned and used to base our "GST Base Flash" off of. This was 100% stock with just a reflash. No boost pills, MBC, or any aftermarket parts.

You can see the results of that here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/20...-ecuflash.html

We knew there was more in a stock 2009 Ralliart with just an addition of a boost pill upgrade. The same boost pill upgrade we have used with good success on the 2003-2008 Evo 8/9/10.

We had another different 100% stock 2009 Ralliart come in this weekend to test our boost pill upgrade on.

Here is the data and information:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off we did all the testing on our in-house Mustang dyno. This is a low-reading and load bearing dyno that has been setup to accurately simulate street load on the car. For this thread I have exported the data from the dyno and created new charts for the sake of visually showing all the data better. Also note this is done on California 91 octane gasoline.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first thing we did is baselined the car as it came in. Meaning 100% stock down to the factory tune.

It was a bit stronger than the 09 Ralliart we had on the dyno in January.

Baseline of 201whp / 217wtq

Peak boost of 18.5psi, dropping to 11psi at 6,000rpm

Next we loaded our 09 Ralliart "Base Flash" onto the car and did a couple runs with that:

Peak power of 224whp / 231wtq

Peak boost of 19psi, dropping to 13psi at 6,500rpm

As you can see, this 09 Ralliart did not gain as much with our BaseFlash as the previous 09 Ralliart did. Every car is different and will gain more or less depending. All data, AFR, Boost was within the parameters of what we tuned into the BaseFlash.

Next we installed our Boost Pill upgrade and went to tuning the Ralliart to establish our BaseFlash+BP for the Boost Pill upgrade:

Peak power of 236whp / 244wtq

Peak boost of 21psi, dropping to 14.5psi at 7,000rpm

As you can see by the overlays, the peak numbers do not tell the whole story here. Large gains where seen in the area under the curve, espically in the midrange from 4,000 to 6,000 rpm.

I tuned a bunch of different boost profiles in the quest to find the "sweet" spot of the smaller RA turbo with everything else stock. Since the RA has a smaller FMIC and turbo than the Evo 10 it really really did not like more boost up top then I ended up with as it started to get very grumpy. The final boost profile is safe and consistent while still using the stock small FMIC and stock exhaust system with stock cat.

The Rev Limiter was also raised from the factory 6800 rpm setting to 7100 rpm because of the added power sustained up top.

Here are the boost profiles between all three (100% stock vs BaseFlash vs BaseFlash+BP):

As you can see, the Boost Pill upgrade made a large difference in the boost curve I could dial in. There is still alot of tuning room for when a Ralliart owner wants to upgrade to a full exhaust, intake, FMIC, etc etc.

Here is the final BaseFlash+BP Ralliart vs the 100% stock tune Ralliart:

And here is the final BaseFlash+BP Ralliart vs a 100% stock tune Evo 10 GSR:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So now that I have posted the powercurves, how about some turbo lb/min airflow data from all this?

Peak flow of 26 lb/min for the 100% stock Ralliart

Peak flow of 31 lb/min for the BaseFlash Ralliart

Peak flow of 31 lb/min for the BaseFlash Ralliart

Peak flow of 33 lb/min for the BaseFlash+BP Ralliart

Again, peak numbers don't show the whole story as there are large lb/min gains throughout the curve.

And 100% stock Ralliart vs the BaseFlash+BP Ralliart:

And for giggles, a BaseFlash+BP Ralliart vs a 100% stock Evo 10 tuned with our BoostPill upgrade:

Peak flow of 33 lb/min for the BaseFlash+BP Ralliart

Peak flow of 41 lb/min for the tuned Evo 10 with BoostPill upgrade.

So the Evo 10 turbo can flow about 10 lb/min more with the same mods. Would make a good "upgrade" for the 09 Ralliart.

This Evo 10 made 300whp/290wtq on our dyno.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope all this information is helpful to 09 Ralliart owners when looking into what sort of gains can be had with very simple modifications. I can't wait to see what a 09 Ralliart will do with some budget Evo 10 "hand me down" parts.

Cheers!

Wow thanks for all the useful data, I wonder now what other gains can be made with BPUs (basic performance upgrades for those who dont know). Keep up the good work guys.

is that manually? or letting the computer do the shifting?

Are you guys going to be coming out with intercooler pipes, intercooler, intake, TBE, anything? Or is GST strictly tuning?

We don't have any plans on mass producing parts at this time. We can however custom fab anything for people local. We do installs, tuning, full builds, roll cage and race car fabrication, tuning, etc etc

So what are the rates for the tunes and how long does it take to do?

I believe it would have been manually increased in the ecu roms.

I hope someone volunteers for an E-85 tune on their RA...soon.

I'd like to see an RA with intake, TBE, injectors, pill, and an E-85 tune. Would it make 350/350 whp/trq? Hummmmm? What do you think?

no it wouldn't make that much. Turbo isn't big enough to flow that kind of power.

Might be a noob question, but then again i am one. Does the boost pill make any difference without a flash?
