Seriously, spend some time and do the research yourself. There is plenty of info out there from numerous people that have discussed this. Do you really want to base your decision on a single person's post? Clayton is fairly unbiased (at times), but do some other research for the love on not being lazy!!!

I was gona tell you to do a search but ill be nice this time!!It all really depends what you want the car for... If your intentions are autox/roadrace get the MR, if you are into drag then get the 5sp but then again the IXs 5sp gearing is almost identical to the 6sp so at a certain point you will be limited to 1/4 et and traps. If you want the shocks and the wheels then spend the extra 3-4k, its your desicion!

And if I didn't feel like replying again and again, I wouldn't waste my time looking like an arrogant punk. That's high school bully style... grow up. Nobody want's to hear it. If nobody posted questions, this site would be dead and nobody would have anything to talk about. There is only so much that you can talk about when discussing car stuff... so why not talk about it. I love to talk, learn, and drive cars. I say keep it alive and positive. Don't act like a punk and don't let knowlege go to your head. You've already lost my respect.
Says the man who thinks the 6spd is weaker than the 5spd and thinks a set of Bilsteins goes for $500...

There is no correlation between people asking questions without searching and the forum going dead. I don't know why you associate the two. There are plenty of things to talk about without people asking the same question hundreds of times without searching. Everytime someone asks a repeat question, it becomes that much harder to search that topic, which means great information gets buried more and more.

Talk all the potshots at me you want, but I give tons of information here on a daily basis, but sometimes I prefer to teach a man to fish rather than giving him fish...over and over and over and over and over...(you get the hint).

So which is more stout, 6speed or 5speed? I'm busy with finals and can't spend a lot of time searching.

I'm getting my evo right after finals too so I need to do as much research in the amount of time I have..

Please someone link me or just tell me straight up..

Thanks a lot!

I bought my Bilsteins for my old M Coupe for just over $500. That's where I came up with the number. I also said that "yeah, I've heard that the 6 speed was weaker"... I didn't state it as fact. I've heard a lot of things.

Enough with the bashing. Sorry for hurting your feelings. I'm a Marine officer... so I don't tolerate bad attitude that well when I see it.

As far as I know, all of the IX tranny linkages are teflon coated...Check the Mitsubishi USA website. It's in the basic description for all of the EVOs.

I agree. The forum gets bogged down with useless threads and no one learns the value of reading first, but are in a hurry to post questions for instant gratification, post count, or fame - whatever. Newbs with bogus questions get treated a lot harsher on DSM forums then they do here. Instead of "I ned 2 kno whut BOV makes da lodest sound, b4 my race 2nite - hurry up and reply!" type threads, you get more "Should I go with HKS 272's or FP2X's and Manley or Crower springs with my Fp 3052 equipped street/strip full weight 1G?" The former still happens, but gets shut down almost instantly.

Depends also on what color you want. I've always wanted a blue Evo w/c is not an MR color so I got the GSR. If you don't care about the color and have the extra money then definitely go and get the MR. If you can wait before the end of the year then get the special editions.

The big advantage of the MR is that it's got a much nicer suspension for road use. However, if you're going to track the car...then you don't really care! Why? Because neither the stock Evo suspension nor the vaunted MR suspension is really good enough for the track. For a track car, you'll be replacing the springs and dampers anyway. So, it really doesn't matter. Save yourself the dough and get a regular Evo (or an RS).

The difference isn't huge. If money is no object, then go ahead and get the MR. At least you'll get bragging rights. On the track, you'll never really use 6th gear. Indeed, you'll hardly ever use 5th gear on most circuits. So, again, it doesn't really matter.

Personally, if I were buying new new Evo and planned to do lots of events with it, I'd budget for coilovers and a few other mods. I'd lean towards the regular Evo or an RS so I could have some money left in my pocket for the necessary mods, a couple of extra sets of wheels, and the endless supply of tires and pads you'll go through

Kayaalp, I have yet to be on a track where I didn't use 5th gear on the 6th speed. Even if I shift at 7k, that's only 100mph or so. I get almost high enough to need 6th gear, but 5th gets me right to the end of the straights with great acceleration.
