Thinking about upgrade my stock to 20g or GT3076s, which one is more reliable and efficient? And which turbo has quicker response?

3076 for the kind of racing you do, can't go wrong with it

I just had the FP Green installed and tuned. So far it is performing well. Lag seems a little more than stock but not bad at all. Power is really good and smooth all the way to red line. BTW -- tuned for 91 by Shiv

Highest EGT I have hit so far is 850C so a very safe tune. Next step is to upgrade the oil cooler for track duty to take care of the additional heat

JTB, I saw your graph, but I didn't see the boost and octane numbers. You said tuned for 91, so I'm guessing with E85 or race gas, it could make a lot more power.

Comparing with my altitude DD numbers, your torque definitely is later (slower spool), but you sustain boost/power much longer and much higher. I hit peak whp at 5200rpm, yet you're still at peak torque by that time while your WHP only continues to climb another 30 points and stays above my peak of 300 all the way up to 7500rpm. I peak at 300whp at 5200rpm and fall to 250whp by 7k, so you're a good 80whp higher up top with only 91oct. This is a case where peak power differences (+30whp/-50wtq) mean very little compared to the big picture.

+1 .... the FP EVO Green turbo definately seems like the turbo of choice for road racing.

This tune was for 91 -- there was another Evo that made the same numbers that I did on 91 but when tuned for race gas was producing close to 370. Hopefully Supernet will post his graph after Harvey emails it to him.

As far as boost I believe I am hitting about 21-22 PSI but I will get a boost chart and a/f from Harvey tomorrow to confirm.

I am trying to understand your last comment Warr and am not completely sure what you are saying. The turbo appears to be very linear and easy to drive as well as easy to keep on the boil. If you are referring to how well this turbo will do on a road course then I guess we will have to wait and see. I guess it will also really depend on what type of track

As far as power mods to answer ph2280509

03 Evo VIII with 40K miles

Vishnu Signature full exhaust with cat delete
HKS 264i 272e cams with cam gears set to +1 -3
XEDE with SMART
780 injectors
FP Green turbo
SS Autochrome O2 housing modified to hold the heat shield
AMS LICP
AMS FMIC
Samco hoses

If you and I listed our dyno numbers without graphs, it would look like this:

JTB - 327whp/288wtq
Warr - 300whp/337wtq

A random observer would say, "Hmm, only 27whp better but 49wtq worse...that's not very good." However, when looking at the graphs and boost (22psi vs 26psi) for comparison, you see that there is a lot more to those numbers than peak differences. I spoke to Paul today about your car and how it compares to mine, and his personal experience of riding in the car echoed my explanation of how much better your power curves are than mine. I literally have to shift at 6300rpm or so just to stay in the meat of my power curve, whereas your power continues to pull and pull to 7k and beyond. By 7k, I've dropped to 250whp while you're up around 320. Then, I surmised that if you had race gas, you'd totally blow me out of the water, which is when he mentioned the other guy (Supernet, I guess?). He made 370 on a race gas mix, which is what GT35R STis are making on that same dyno but with 91oct. I think that says a lot for the 20g being a viable solution up here...

Ahh-- now I understand

It is amazing how much the stock turbo falls off up here. I am really curious to see how your IX turbo does in comparison to the FP. It will be interesting.

I have separate tunes for each type of racing, thanks. My dyno figures are from my street tune. The torque difference here is due to me running alky and big boost vs him on 91oct and regular boost.

FP turbo

Hi JTB:

Thanks for the reply.
I have a IX MR, and I am thinking about getting this FP evo green turbo.
Did you bought the new FP Evo green or did you send your VIII turbo in
to be modified? What are your thoughts about the two options?
Thanks again
