Changed Pads, ear piercing noise now
Ok, I'm at a loss.. I'm at 18K miles and my brembo pads were down to 5%+/-. Last weekend I changed the front out for some Duratech Gold pads, they squeal rediculously loud.. I went back in, cleaned the calipers out, and put some of that brake cushion gunk you put on the back of the shims to quiet them, and it was fine for a few stops and then back to the same noise. Well this weekend, I tried a Raybestos pads on the back to see what they would do. Cleaned out the calipers, lubed them same way, and immediately the squeal is so loud, it was quite literally drawing attention hundreds of feet away! It was so loud I have a friggen headache. Is it the material of these pads? Does Brembo have some dirty secret that makes only Brembo pads work with Brembo rotors? Anyone have some suggestions? My rotors are slightly scored now too.
Duratech? Not too familiar with the brand. We're they warped at all? I tried to cut mine, but just ended up buying StopTech Slotted for the front with Hawk HP+ Pads front and rear. But then again my brembos Squeeled like a ***** when it was wet out.
The Brembo pads have fiber shims glued to the back of the pad. You need to pry them off (a THIN metal putty knife or scraper will do the trick) and stick them to the back of your new pads. Note, this is in addition to the metal shim that goes between the pads and the pistons. Place that metal shim on the pad with the fiber shims you recover from your stock pads and try to find some copper anti-sieze (you may have to order some- it's not too common) to coat the back of the pads with. These things will greatly help with the squeal. Hopefully you didn't toss you old pads yet...
I actually did keep the front shims.. the back brakes came with new shims so I used those as the back ones looked to be in terrible condition. However, I didn't coat the back of the pads on the back brakes. In any case, my rotors ended up chewed up a bit more than I liked, so I ordered new rotors front and rear, and I'll try and break it all down again and redo the brakes fresh. Thanks everyone. I'll post and let you know how it turns out. I've just never heard a brake set squeal like this before. It was ear piercing loud even on gentle braking.

you probably did not spray enough of that anti-squeal (permatex cooper mix). So take your pads out again, and spray or apply them generously (like a lot!!) wait til its slightly dried, reinstall the pads and then see what happens.
my bet is there is a lip on your rotor, and you did not file down the edges of the pads and its squealing on this lip.
Take a file and run it over the edges of the pad surface so as to make it beveled. Your problem will go away more than likely.
If you just put pads onto used rotors do this process always, if they are new rotors, you can skip it.

These showed up yesterday:
. I bought front and rear. I rebuilt the front the other day and put more anti-squeal gunk in there, did manage to get rid of the noise out of the front, the back on the other hand is unchanged. The front pads are angled on the edges, the rear, not so much. If new rotors and shims don't help today, I'll probably just find a set of ceramics. I took a shot at the duralast semi-metallics for a bit more durability since my daily commute is rediculously long, but it doesn't seem like they are working out. Anyone have opinions of Project Mu pads? I'm not a fan of Hawk pads, had issues with them in the past on WRXs, repeatedly.

Ok, so I put them in...
The back set still squeal and grind like crazy. So I'm going with a different brand of pads, there's something obviously wrong with these. Recommendations on low noise brands? I'm not dropping $225 on dusty, short lived rear brembo pads.
