methanol mixtures

at lowes i found denatured alcohol, it was about $14/gallon, too expensive for me and from wat slowcar said, it doesnt seem worth it either because of the additives
if your going to get heet, make sure its the yellow one

Methanol vs DI water
We have recent run some tests on a specific solenoid valve made by Clippard of USA.
- The valve coil assembly is nickel plated steel.
- The spiral spring and shim is made with Nickel alloy.
- The I/O manifold is nickel plated brass.
We fully immersed two identical valves into a capped plastic container and left it for two months - in room temperature ~20C. One container was filled with DI-water and the other M50/W50.
The valve in the methanol mix did not exhibit any sign of corrosion but the DI (de-ionised) water shown corrosion on all parts, more extremely on the coil assemble (higher iron content).
The reason for posting this result is to show methanol helps water to become less aggressive. Please don't not be alarmed with water. DI water is not normally used for water injection - mains water is very mild. I will be doing more tests with a different percentage of water/methanol mix. Keeping the water as DI type.

DI means "de-ionised" - alternative name "demin" or "De-mineral" water. They are pure water - 99.99 % water. We use a great deal of them at work.
By adding methanol, the aggressive edge of the di-water becomes soft - this test has certainly surprised us. Stainless valve is expensive due to its specialist concoction to suit a particular application especially those requires good magnetic properties. We are looking into producing a cost effective progressive system that utilised this mix. A low cost steel valve can be used instead of specialist stainless alloy as in the HSV.

so i guess thats why they never bother to make the high iron bearing components more resistant to corrosion to an aqueous media
also there is claim this valve has a 4ms response...the literature does not back it up...

No adavantage....just missing part of the equation.
Water has just as much benefit as Meth.
Meth for the Higher octance and the water to pull the heat out.
Ask the pro guys. Like the Eco-tec car...they use 75%meth, 25% water.
