Looks like I will be ditching the mini battery for the winter and just putting a optima red top in the trunk for the winter months....they are cheaper than the mini battery, well pretty close to the same price, and actually has the correct number of cold cranking amps...

Plus, my car was even in the garage last night....maybe it should have been heated......POS pc680, which isnt even a year old and has never been dead before...
How long had it been since you started it last??

They definatly do for cold weather locations. I even park my car in a garage, although it is unheated.

I just picked up a Valuecraft battery, rated at stock cranking and cold cranking amps and a battery box, and will be installing it in the trunk today as I already have power wire ran back from an old amp install.

Just installed my trunk battery, I will post up some pictures tommorow when I get some time, I had to install it on my lunch break.

I used monster cable 4 gauge wire, which is closer to 2 gauge to run from the front to the back right corner of the trunk.

No voltage drop from the front to the back, i will be doing some logs to watch voltage during the drive home with the lights and heat on just in case.

I would have run 1/0 gauge but I did not have any on hand, and did not have time to run it back the way I ha the 4 gauge ran...

It;s really really clean. I used a plastic battery box, and have the cables coming from the back of the box so all you see is the black plastic battery box. I may end up wrapping it in the same carpet that the trunk is in, or even better, fiberglassing a cover for it....which, now that I think of it, is exactly what I will be doing this weekend...

I'd say the weight difference between the mini battery and the cables needed for the remote location is about 10 lbs difference. But now, my rear end is balanaced as I have a sub enclosure fiberglassed in the rear left hand corner of the trunk..

As for the best overall mini battery kit, it's got to be Nisei Engineering all the way.

They offer 2 different kits both of which are Billet Aluminum CNC Machined. Here is what the trays look like:

The Genesis kit - MSRP $240 with Enersys Genesis battery, Terminals, and all stainless hardware. Genesis trays starts as a 1" thick billet aluminum. It is then CNC machined to create a "pocket" which forms a retaining wall around the battery. This retaining wall keeps the battery in position along with the tie down. There is NO other kit on the market that can touch the quality, finish, fitment and selection! Hands down the best!

If you want to see more goto : http://nisei-evo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5

The UBC is more universal - MSRP $200 with battery, terminals, and hardware. Now, the more cost effective kit is still head and shoulders above the rest! Main difference is it starts as a 3/8" thick billet aluminum plate and is CNC machined to shape. It uses slider brackets to keep the battery in position. Difference in price is due to less machine time required to produce.

Now for those of you NOT feeling the mini battery, Nisei did make a tray for the stock battery which has been relocated to the trunk. Again CNC Billet Aluminum Tray.

This is NOT a KIT! Just the tray assembly and hardware. Current colors in stock are Nisei Black and Polished. PM or call (213)909-8022 for pricing.

For more pix of full size battery tray goto: http://www.nisei-evo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33

I'm here for your questions!

Jed

Allows for the short route UICP and counters the weight of the driver while retaining a full charge all the time

If you plan on going with a mini battery I would recommend our super value battery kit. We have seen several odyssey batteries come back due to not being able to hold a charge. This year we have had around 17 batteries come back all being odysseys and not one super value battery.

The price on the super value battery kit is $219.00 + Shipping, and you choose between gloss black or gloss silver powder coated, we also have polished stainless steel for an additional charge.

If you have any questions regarding the CCA or reserve of the battery give me a call at 360-263-3748 or PM.

Thanks for your time! If you need anything let me know!

Thanks,

Michael

Logged voltage today to work and with the lights, stereo, and heat on and voltage never dropped below 14.1. Pretty much always stayed around 14.23.

Which is good as I really didnt want to have to run 1/0 gauge wire through the car...
