Both Computer and Tuning Literate

At this point I really feel like a moron. I can not get the EMS to communicate with my laptop. COM ports between the two match, and my laptop tells me the COM port is active and the device is enabled. However, I can not get the two to communicate. If anyone has any constructive advice let me know.

Try disable the port, and uninstall it. Then reboot and reinstall the port. It would be windows' brainfart.

You neglected to specify if you were using an USB to Serial adapter or a built-in serial port.

No matter which type of serial port that you are using, make sure your port settings are correct (8N1) and that the key is turned on past the Accesory setting but before it actually cranks the engine over. If it is still not working, try a lower serial port speed.

It turns out the serial port on my laptop is bad. I used a loop tester to discover it. A simple USB to serial converter fixed the problem.
