You probably need to take out a degree or two of timing. Have you tried that?

Umm... I'm running methanol injection and 93 octane @ 25 psi and only running 7-8 degs of timing. Even on race gas +methanol I can't run much more timing. I hope you weren't referring to me?

Umm... yes I'm referring to you. Who cares what the timing numbers are as long as your car makes good power?

Do you think you are making good power when AEM pulls a lot of timing after 4 volts of knock?

Post an internal log.

The car made 430whp on C16 and methanol injection @ 29 psi with max timing of 12 degs. On this tune it was showing upwards of 3.5 volts of knock, but still felt very good.

The funny thing is when the log shows 4-4.2 volts of knock, I can't hear it. Many have siad the same thing while it was on the dyno. We had many people standing near the car and nobody inside nor outside the car could hear it, but yet the AEM log was showing it. Strange, very strange......

How do I post a log?

Post the log on the AEM forum, make sure you have knock voltage in the fast section. AEM isn't lying, you probably are knocking, and until you fix the problem you are abusing the motor. You'll be surpised what one or two degrees of timing adjustment will do to knock voltage.

AEM is pulling a ton of timing (assuming it is set up properly) on a 4 volt knock event, that is probably the hiccup you feel.

Depending on what kind of mods you have noisy clutch transmission noise etc maybe the knock sensor is picking up other noise and not knock...when i went from a exedy twin to exedy triple clutch with the same aem tune the knock went way up just due to the increased noise of the clutch..you can calibrate the knock sensor base values by doing some fixed rpm revs to know what is a normal amount of knock for your car..

Someone mentioned it might be clutch chatter from the Exedy Triple carbon clutch, but how can I be sure?

There are way too many possibilities, but I am slowly weeding through them though.

EVOONYOASS Have you upgraded to version 1.13 yet? Just a thought if you did that could be the cause. When I tryed 1.13 my knock results changed, why I have no clue but I could never identify or hear nock so I went back down a notch.

No, I have not upgraded to anything. Mine says V1.11? Should I try something else?

Just got done tuning a car and I thought I was doing something wrong. I had max timing of 10* at 20psi. and still had inconsistent knock reading. The highest was 3.8volts. but when I decrease the timing it helps but also decrease my hp. I never heard any knock/detonation on the motor and sounded very healthy.
I had another car that didn't read anything past 1.3volts and its a gradual increase from low rpm (.4) and gets higher as rpm increases. Exact same set up on both cars.
05 is the one with the over active knock voltage and 03 was the other that didn't have any issues.

There is no v 1.13, there is v1.11 and v1.19. What you guys need to understand is that knock volts does not mean knock. And every engine will have a different peak voltage. Also, 11.3 to 1 afr on pump gas is too lean for an EVO. They make best power at around 10.6 to 1. Running richer allows you to put more advance in, and keep knock down with the cooling from the extra fuel. Why do you think Mitsu runs well into the 9's afr from the factory! It is an inherint problem when pushing 19psi on pump gas.

Also, the AEM doesn't "pull timing" the guys punching the keys tell it too. If it is pulling timing, it is because you set it up that way.

off topic..So how does a flash work when knock voltage varies from one car to the next.
I tried running more fuel before retarding the timing and it didn't help. 11.3 is where the car wanted to run. and retarding the timing is where I had knock voltage under control. It was still higher 2.2-2.8 than what the 03 had which was .4 to 1.3
I honestly haven't tried running it as rich as 10.6( will see on wednesday)

It's hard to say what the factory is doing for sure, keep in mind the priority of the factory isn't performance...it's reliability. Stock cars are built to the same tolerances, so they don't have to worry about engines having different noise levels through the knock sensor. It's when you mod them, that you run in to problems.

Sorry bro, 1.19 is what I meant.
