Very Cold Start problem

When it is very cold out side 20f and lower and i try to start my car it takes awhile maybe 5 seconds of cranking before it fires and it is very weak start. The car starts great anything above freezing, Motor warm or cold. Is there any one out there that has fixed this problem.

when i say die, i mean right after ignition, not during driving or stoping, or if the engines warm

Do you have the uego option/ what A/F are you seeing in these conditions?

It may help to add additional fuel in cranking and afterstart as a cold engine will not atomize fuel like an engine that is already warm. The fuel does not atomize properly when this cold and will actualy form droplets on the port walls. This is the reason a cold engine requires longer injector pulse width opening times while starting and imediately after starting while cold. The colder the engine is the more enrichment it will take to make the engine run smooth. You can also ask the ECU to make the engine idle higher at lower coolant temps and let it taper off to your desired idle speed as it reasches operating temperature.

Very common problem... the engine was probably never subjected to those low temps while the cold start calibration took place by your tuner.

good luck friend

Add some fuel in the warm up enrichment during those cold temps.

The last two posts are good advice. When you get in the car turn the key to on, count 1,2,3 which will allow the fuel pump to kick on, then try starting it. If it is still slow to start you can click Engine start, advanced template, and check the box crank inject all and that may solve your problem. Have you gone to the AEM board and searched "cold starts"? There are several good posts, look for ones by BLCKMGC, 94GSX, FHWOMbat...they know their stuff but they can be sarcastic. I spelled 2 of the 3 wrong but I'm too lazy to go check. you'll find them.
