I'm surprised that there isn't an easier way to set boost through the EMS... you'd think there'd be a way to write an algorithm so that you just set the target boost and the EMS works it out similar to the "autotune" feature for A/F.

 

Im confused, why can't you just go to whoever tunes your car w/ whatever EM you use and have them make a map that has an increased target boost amount? Why would you be doing this yourself unless you have some sort of 'street tuner' that allows you to make your own maps to be flashed.

Just go to your tuner and get a custom tune w/ a solenoid and see how much boost he can get for a safe but aggressive tune.

 

Easy for you to say... I'm stationed in Germany for the next two years. Good luck finding somebody that's AEM certified over here... or somebody that even knows what an EMS is. Some people have heard of it, but have never had any experience with one or even seen one.

I'm not even really trying to mess with it right now since I don't want anything to happen while I'm over here. I'm just planning ahead for what I'm going to do once I get back to the states and I'm trying to figure out if I want the EMS to control the boost or not. The tuner camp seems to be somewhat divided on MBC vs EBC. Both Al and Tym Switzer advocate MBCs...
