Question Idle questions

I just had my EMS installed and tuned. The tuner didnt spend much time on it since it was a base map for an evo8 with my mods (close to). We set the idle to 1000rpm or just above is actually what it is at. On warm up it's around 1500rps, which is fine then it comes back down to around 1000 to 1100. But after I have driven around for a bit and come to a stop or park, it will be back up to around 1500 and will even go up to around 1900. Any idea's what to look for/check? I was reading about parameters to set the idle to keep from stalling but I dont know a lot about it.

Idle is a very difficult thing to fix over the internet, every car is different. It's easier to make a WOT tune than idle.

Post up the cal file.

I've got a problem like this as well, except when i've just started the car the car won't idle high enough to maintain idle for the engine being so cold. After a few minutes the car warms up and it will maintain idle. I know there is a warm up schedule for idle for a given engine temp. It seems to not be responding to changes, if I make any. I'll have to keep reading the HUGE AEM EMS manual. Good luck with your problems man.

The single best thing you can do to get idle speed control in the ballpark is to properly set up the ISC position vs set rpm table. Since every single rpm setting is designed to spit out a target idle speed, this is the most important. And most often ****ed up. It's also worth tuning cold idle target RPMs when the motor is actually cold. The FIAV is in a different place, etc, many variables change. Also set things up so that you never hit cold idle speeds when the motor is warm. For example, target warm idle of 1000 rpm, high idle target 1200 rpm. Only set cold idle ISC position from 1300 and up.

Once this is done, the other settings and features can start to work, and what's in the base map, manual, and most tuner maps will at least be good enough to not have any real problems. I spent a year tuning idle control on my EVO always being able to continue to make small improvements, so it's a vast topic and impossible to cover on the forums without very specific questions. You have to just try **** and stay on it every day until you are satisfied with it.

i got the same problem as jutilat, when i start the car up cold, i have to put my foot on the gas a little to rev it around 1500 then once its starts up it makes its way from 600 all the way until 850 when its warm. its annoying as hell in the winter cause i cant just start the car and leave...is it the actual idle control valve? or a computer issue?
