Idle -- How good is yours

So I have been playing with the ems for a little while now, I am working on the cold starts on E85 and the big one is the idle. So for me There is no way my car will idle under 1000rpms. I just is not going to happen. My car will also idle very well sometimes, and other times it will just hang at 1000rpm and then all of a suddenly die.

So I am curious what everyone else is doing as far as Idle.

Also My car is more or less stock.
Evo 9 Turbo
FIC 1100cc
AEM 5bar
GM AIT
LICP
MBC
3" TBE
Stock Snorkle with HKS filter Maf unhooked.

I have large cams, JUN 272's to be exact and now FIC 2150 injectors and I can hold 1000 and above nearly perfectly though at 1000 rpms and big cams it can be a little temperamental when clutched off and on at times. I chose to idle the car at about 1200 though to pull stronger vacuum and more stable idle with and without A/C is not a problem.

When I had HKS 272 cams I could hold 900~1000 without any hunting what so ever even with A/C on.

With stock cams and ID1000's I have the idle set at 700rpm once it's warm and it's rock solid. Just gotta spend some time with it.

Mine will idle perfect around 900-1000RPM. But once in a while it will start hunting around 700-1200. After a boosted run it will not idle!?

Because I am on speed density. I just have not had time to make a MAFless intake. yes the car is using the MAP not MAF base map, and all sensors are configured.

idles awesome on id2000's, kelford 280/276 cams, e85, 2.3L

you need to get your iac working for you.

regardless of what everyone else is doing, if your having your iac live in 1 area, yet you have enormous corrections getting it to live in another area, your idle will be inconsistant.

why dont you post a log of your idle issues...

now if someone would only send him a template to use that had all those parameters logged.....that would be awesome

I wish there was a forum requirement for posting a log of said issue or thread will be removed.

by posting a log, you have the oppurtunity to provide a snap shot of whats really happening......

Well dang, I guess i need to start a thread then. I know there are alot of people having idle issues. Hell, i had them for like 5 years till i just figured it out recently.

Aby, I could never get the iac to be dead on in all conditions and i dont believe anyone can.
Reason being is the oem "stepper type" iac has no position sensor. So, in this case the ecu parks the pintle in a supposed spot then uses that at the next key on to figure pintle position.
In other words is just guesses as it has no position sensor to verify that it is in the correct location. If you read the idle section in the aempro instructions it also states this. My fix for this was switching to a " pulsewidth" type iac like found on a 4.6L 96-2004 mustang.
Yes, it would require some machine work and some trickery. Not an easy task by no means but worth it to me. Then i figured out the trick to the aem idle issue so im sticking with the stock iac. It does change all the time though, varying from -2 to +2 on the idle feedback.. Thats as close as i could get it. Actually im sooo happy with it now i would just like to enjoy a rock solid cammin' idle....

Ya I was looking to collect as much info as possible, and work through different things. Just trying to make sure that there are other people that are able to do what I am not. I have some logs from over the weekend, and I know the car is getting close. But it is always the last 10% that takes the longest. So I have been really focused on getting the car to idle perfectly at 1000rpm, and then I will drop to 900rpm, and then to 800rpm.

So tonight I will post up a log file and my cal, for people to look at. As soon as I get home from work.
