Jesse's 6466 Evo 9 Build - Boostin Performance

When Jesse brought us his Evo 9, it wasn't in the best shape. He recently had the car built by a local shop, but they were not familiar with Evo's, and he wasn't confident with the end result. Needless to say, it wasn't running to his satisfaction.

Upon further inspection, everything was installed a little off and was assembled using mismatched hardware - none of it being OEM. We performed a leak down test and it showed a 40% leak down on cylinders 1, 3, and 4, and 70% on cylinder 2. When we drained the oil, the news wasn't any better. Copper colored bearing material was visible in the oil. After discussing the results of the inspection and how we could help, we devised a game plan with the customer. After his experience, Jesse explained that he just wanted the car built right. I assured him that Boostin Performance could get the job done right, the first time, and he'd have the results he was looking for. Guaranteed.

After taking the motor apart, it was very apparent what the problems where - The spark plugs looked like they came back from the beach (visible detonation), and the piston ringlands where distorted and not allowing the rings to move and seal properly. We also found the bearing issue - the big end of the Manley rods were under spec and the rod bearings did not have the proper oil clearance.

Now that Jesse can put that all behind him, he decided he wanted the whole car gone though from the ground up. Below are some pic's of our Boostin Built Stage 3 9.5:1 Shortblock, avalible here -->http://shop.boostinperformance.com/category-s/1832.htm Also some pics of the Buschur Racing Stage 3 cylinder head we are using. We plan on building Jesse's Evo 9 to be one of the fastest, cleanest, and well built street Evo's around.

Some of the plans for the build include:
  • ETS T4 6466 Turbo Kit
  • Boostin Performance Ported IM
  • AEM-EMS tune on our Mustang Dyno

Stay tuned for progress and more pic's along the way

It is sad to see a guy come in that just dropped a ton of money on the car only to have to do it yet again... Looking good so far!

Its never fun doing thing all over again.

The other shop acknowledged that mistakes were made, and they offered to help fix the car. They are covering a good amount of the repairs, and in this respect Jesse got lucky.

Good to know that there are shops out there willing to admit to their mistakes and in addition help cover some repair cost.

The other taking the blame is a big move kudos for stepping up,I remember when I was dealing Big AL and the clown's at Pruven Performance. I had to take my car to AMS because they killed my brand new evo 9 and still didn't take the blame for it ,even though they had the car brand new with under 1000 miles on it.

Haha yes you did big guy. Soooooo did I. I also had a horrible tuning experience there. The tuner couldnt even access my ecu. Then I found out he blew up 12 straight cars. Needless to say hes not tuning anymore. Maybe not the shops fault but the owner told me he had full confidence in that tuner even though he had been known for blowing up cars....
