hey wsap guys, i just found this thread (lol), i live in texas, and i'm filipino|spaniard, and white. My mom is the filipino, and my dad is the whitey. I'm a mili brat, so yeah, anyways, just wanted to say wsap, i dont know tagalog, but i hear it every damn day of the hour. About a few days ago, some guy in the marines asked me if i was a filipino, i said yes, well he asked me if they called me a FLIP, and i heard that from filipino's but this guy told me its a bad thing about filipino's...can some one please tell me the meaning of this?
im 100% culturally flipino (dad's side is chinese, mom's side is spanish), but lived in PI for 12 years..but even when i moved to the states...i was still surrounded by the filipino culture...
i personally don't find the word offensive...neither do my other filipino friends...shoot...my mom even, at one point, considered opening a restaurant called The Flip Side...honestly, i think thats where i got the word from.
