I pulled 140db!
I pulled 140db!
The Gladstone round of the Queensland Autobarn Sound-offs' was on yesterday, and I managed 140db!
There were plenty of 144db and one 145db (the winner), but every-one of them was a hatch/coupe setup, with freeair btween the boot and cab... I have a Lancer Sedan without a split seats, so it has punch through the seats and parcel shelf!
I relise it's all THAT loud, but I'm happy for my first attemp!
Anyone else know what their stereo puts out?

Hey Sandman, why dont you make some port holes in your parcel shelf. Have a look on the Xplod site and look at the Skylines (they look so nice) anyway one of those has the parcel shelf ported and it look realy professional.
I can pull 140 with my current set up consisting of
1 x MTX 12" SVC with about 450wrms going to it
1 x ported box
140 is a pretty good reading for the gear I have, It all comes down to planning and how youu set up your system.
If you want to get more out of your setup when you do your run, fire the subs into the back of the car or to one of the back corners where the lights are, Dont fire them into the back seats. I sued to run my setup like you and I was getting 135's. And I was told to do what I suggested and bang! there was an extra 5db's. Also take out your rear speakers, you will be suprised at how much more you will gain out of your system.
Cheers

i have a question about these SPL Comps..when do they decide to take a reading of the sound level? is it before it gets distorted or is it just the peak sound level even through distortion? sorry for such a newb question

well, if you go into distortion usually, the loudness drops, as the cone is peaking to much.. we set ours up just before it hits the flat of the wave. We've experinced a drop of at least 2 dB after and thats with minimal distortion form the subs.
As we said before, its how you set your car up, if someone says i'll tune it by ears, go somewhere else. My ears arent perfect, but you can hear the quality after a tuning by different people in the same car.

My mate used to install, and he tuned it for me useing a CRO... also borrowed from work (I knew I went there for a reason!
) What he also told me, was that the DB meter they used, actually wasn't all-that accurate... more for use a comparison between systems. He wreckoned 140db on it, would be more like 125db on an accurate meter!
... thats gotta **** my mate who only pulled 130db on tha same meter!
