Hi guys, newbie here :)

G'day everyone, just a quick note to say hi.

My name's Tim and i'm from the Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney. I drive a 98 Lancer GLXi and a 88 Corolla SE, although the rolla is off the road at the moment due to the engine conversion i'm doing to her.

I thought it was about time i learnt something about my other car so here i am. I've got a question for you which prolly sounds quite dumb. I've no idea about Mitsubishi engine names, so i was wondering if someone could tell me what my engine is? It's a 1.8 SOHC 16v EFi out of a 98 model.

What kind of modifications do these engines respond well to? Of course there is the obvious exhuast, air filter and cold air induction, but besides that???

Anyhow, cool forum, i'll be seeing you guys around

That would be a 4G93. This motor responds to tuned extractors, filter, exhaust, bigger throttle body, management, & of course BOOST! Go HERE to see some of ur options from an experienced Mitsu tuner.

Hello Singlecam, nice to have you here to join in. As far as your engine goes, it all comes down to what you want to do. Once you have figured that out then you can start to plan, and if you ever need to ask a question please ask here. No question is ever too silly.

I'm more curious about learning a bit about these engines rather than doing any modifications in the near future. If i do decide to mod my lancer, it'll prolly just be a set of wheels, better suspension(stock lancers handle like boats) and some breathing mods to give me better fuel economy.

What mods have u guys done to ur engines? I've always assumed that only the turbo lancer engines would be worth spending any serious money on as the 1.8 sohc & gsr lancers can never seem to keep up with me unless i'm driving my lancer

GSR is Turbo... and 4WD... they'll keep up with just about any 2WD under 220kw odd! Better (In many a Mitsu owner opinion) equivalent of a WRX.

another newbie

Hey dudes, another newbie here ^_^. thought i'd just add to this post, rather than creating another one. I'm a big fan of Lancers, and cars in general, but still a newbie to pretty much everything to do with them, and same as Singlecam, very keen on learning the in's and out's of Engine's, Mod's, and everything else.

I currently own a '91 holden apollo ... well, actually, i lost control of it a few weeks ago, going a bit fast around a corner on a mountain road at 1am, and managed to put the whole front end of the car out of alignment. prolly a write off, but still waiting on the insurance company to make a decision. not too happy with myself, but anyways ...

For my next car, i am very keen on scoring myself a Lancer GSR (the 4wd-turbo ones, not the earlier ones), but am not too sure about availability. but not to worry for the moment, i have to save up the money to get one first :P (i would love an evo, but well... $$$)

if my apollo is a write off, i'm gonna have to find myself something cheap to get me from A to B for the time being, because i don't think i could find a GSR (or the money for one) without searching for a long time (but maybe i'm wrong, never know your luck until u look). I've seen a 1990 Lancer GLX for sale, was thinking about that, but the guy wants $5200 (O.N.O.) for it, and i think thats a bit steep for a 1990 lancer.

anyways, enough ranting from me
gotta get back to work
later

Hey settle down Evoposer, it all comes down to condition. If you are looking around that price range possibly you could just get into a CC Lancer, could be a few options there.
