Resonance Air Box on Lancer 1.8 coupe
Recently I was advised (not afraid to admit) that if the resonance air box, which is part of the air intake system prior to main airbox, was removed it would result in an improvment in performance. In naturally aspirated cars this works a treat, possibly one of the easiest increases any 1.8 Lancer owner could get for NO cash outlay.
So today mine "fell off" and a revelation in performance was again found. As many of you know our car is supercharged and certainly demands more air than a N/A engine. Well we picked up another 1.5 - 2 psi boost and that should explain how the performance gain came about. The air filter was given a clean from the clean side with compressed air which is likely to have given a tiny increase on its own.
I will put up a picture of the offending part which is located under and at the left hand front wheel arch. I doesn't weigh too much but it is quite a large piece. Held on by approx 4 bolts/screws.
Mivec I think you did something like this, how much gain do you think it gave your N/A car???
