Question Exhaust System/Extractors

The time has come for more flow out of the engine since there is humungous amounts of flow in.

Any recommendations/figures/charts (before/after) that will help me get it right will be appreciated.

I basically need to know what brand of extractor set is the "one to get" and how or why it is better than any other brand.

I then would like to upgrade the cat converter as well assuming the stock item is highly restrictive.

I suppose I could connect a pressure gauge into the exhaust system before the cat to measure the back pressure (a 0 - 10 psi guage) and then work from there as to what should be done.

Hmmmmmm

If you are in Australia then www.rpw.com.au is your site.

P.S. on another note I saw your car in the registry and you have a super charger. what engine (1.8 or 1.5) is that and what supercharger?

Cool Where's that supercharger from

Ah yes I am well aware of RPW and may well need to purchase their product. Am checking the field to see what else is the go.

Also something I have noticed with aftermarket extractors is that none of the ones I have seen have the oval shaped pipe at the header plate like the factory shorty extractors. All seem to be just straight pipe and I would wonder if that matches the port very well, 4 valve heads often have factory extractors with an oval section at start of pipe no matter what brand they are.

I have a 1.8 L engine. That supercharger is manufactured by Raptor Superchargers (Aust, us) and is a centrifugal style supercharger. The output is 205 - 227 Hp, depending on what extras are added.

You could always just extrude hone and coat the existing manifold, if it looks to be reasonable design.

Extrude honing increases internal diametre by removal of material, and smoothing it out, means gasses can flow with less turbulence and therefore flow more quickly.

Ceramic coating also keeps the heat inside the manifold, meaning it flows more fluidly and hence quicker.

Stractors

Still looking around a bit with the extractor issue.

While nearly everyone has told me Pacemaker don't do Lancers my local dude recieved a special update thingy from them last year concerning the 1.8 Lancer. They are tuned length with flex pipe and cost a princely sum of $270.00 over the counter. Not sure if outlet is 2" or more with these. Will inform. Now the last few sets of this brand that I have used have been impressive on the vehicles they were fitted to, so I hope it could be the same for the Lancer. I could supply a part no: if someone really needs to know.

Also HiTech do some sets as well, do not know the price but they do em in normal tubing and in stainless. These also come ready to bolt up to the standard cat which means the flex is included. These are only 2" outlet

I have the Hi-Tech headders on my 1.8. They seem to be fine, don't know the exact gains they gave as I had the whole system changed, so over all no complaints about them.
