Evo V or VI

Hey everyone! I've been on this site for a bit now reading all things Evo, but now I thought I'd make a thread.

I really want to get an Evo and don't think I can hold out much longer lol. My budget is around $20,000 (AUD) which means I'd be looking at a V or a VI series. I don't actually know if there is much difference with them appart from torque, but no one here seems to have these; you've all got 8's or 9's you rich sods!

So basically I wanted to ask:
1. V (save a few bucks) or VI ?

2. Are they reliable? - I've read servicing is expensive, but is that 'cause you flog them?

3. Would I be able to do most servicing myself? I don't have much experience, have never even changed oil, but I want to learn.

4. Is an Evo REALLY that fast? I think 5's and 6's run under 5 seconds 0-100, but every site I look at has different times. Otherwise I'm thinking a GT-4 cause I already own a Celica and love the style.

5. Should I hold off another 6 months and get a VII?

Thanks guys, I'm a total newbie. Also, Hello from Oz

They will be most likely imports, so i wouldn't know the previous driver. Any way I could tell easily if it has been abused?

What happens if the tubo 'goes out'? do you mean terminal failure, or just wearing out?

Thanks for the reply !
