aZaeVo im in almost the same situation as you. A good 4-2-1 exhaust system would cost you atleast $600 and not only would it give you a nice sound it would also give you a few more HP

You dont have to get a pod but try a K&N panel filter instead...better air flow I'm told! Lower it and put on a 2" exhaust!!

How much of the work can you do yourself? If you are prepared to install everything you are able to buy more things. Some extractors and a exhaust along with some lowered springs would be just over what you are looking to spend, maybe pushing it up to $800. I would not put a pod filter on anyway, as I dont what they do on a NA car, so dont waste your money there. At the end of the day it must be what you want.

i have a 97 lancer aswell except its a coupe, but anyways, for 600 bucks you can not do much, my exhaust cost me $550 or near abouts which included 2 and 14 inch cat back with 3 inch tip, extractors and resignator, its nicely sitting at 90db so just legal and doesnt sound too bad, and with a panel filter, that is my next performance mod im doing to my ride, autobarn sells them for the lancer at $199 not cheap doing up a car hey

i own the 1.5lt mirage and i have a trust panel filter with cold air induction and i have a super high flow exhaust.....only has resinator after the cat so there is no mufflers restricting it......the zorst is legal when i put a muffler on it but when the muffler is off i can beat my mates 2lt v6 astina on most runs......all that only cost me $180

just try and shop around and try to install most the stuff urself

Mods for cheap

OK

Remove the resonator box from air intake, this is just infront of lefthand front wheel. Install new factory element from Mitsi. Rip out the rear muffler and replace with something more free flowing, do not increase pipe size to muffler.

That should cost you a bit of time and a few bucks for the muffler. Will go nicely, and remember to always fill up with BP Ultimate unleaded petrol.
