Intercooler upgrade/installation

Hey guys, just a couple of quick questions. I'm looking to upgrade the intercooler on my Lancer to a front mount. It is a GSR engine and AVO turboworld make a bolt on kit for the GSR. My questions are this:

1. The kit is for up to a '94 GSR but mine is a 2000 GSR engine in a 2000 Lancer. Will the kit still be 'bolt on' or will the piping have to be fabricated??

2. My Lancer also has an Evo 5 front bar. I know the cooler will fit behind the bar, but will the piping fit behind the driving lights?? Has anyone done it before.

3. I'm also looking to increase the boost abit. Anyone know of how high it can go safely, keeping in mind that it is driven daily? I've heard of 14psi but I think that sounds a bit high!

14 pound for a Turbo engine sounds right.. but most only use around 10 for the daily drivers just to be nice to them..

Good luck on the frontmount

I would expect you to have to get new intercooler piping made up as the CC shape GSR's use a totally different piping route.

As for the boost, 14 will be fine (if you are using the standard GSR injectors and fuel pump), I used to run the same when I had my '97 GSR.

But don't push it any more than 15psi if you value your inernals, the conrods arn't very strong and don't like high boost.

Thanks for the help guys.

I think i'll just buy the intercooler and get the piping done locally. Any idea on how much the piping will cost to get done?? The difference between the kit and just the intercololer is nearly $1000. Surely it wouldn't cost that much to get the piping done??

Call Roger or Wai @ Power Digger on (02) 9829 7388

They do top quality intercooler kits - and they are usually around $1200 for a full kit including piping.

I'm having my Evo done there soon. They reckon there's about 10% extra power from the lower pressure drop as well as cooler intake temps.

Can't say I've heard too much about the Hybrid intercoolers, so I'm a bit reluctant to buy from them.

As for your evo, do you know whether there is much difference between the piping kits for the evos and a late model GSR??
