Bump for an answer. This is not the Ecutek right, it's something AMS specific I believe. Can you tell us the advantages of it?

Also the pricing, including a custom tune, I don't see anything specific for the IX on your website. How about a Stage I IX package, or is there no difference in the offer?

those are decent numbers but the IX that was flashed is all stock but the flash, you gain alot on the exhaust side, you ever see how restictive the stock exhaust is?
with the same mods on a IX it would do another 30+ hp & tq. on your 297/289

Again. With another tuner from the boards visiting the midwest soon, I know I would like some information on the AMS flash before making a decision on which direction to go. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Thanks....

I don't think the tool is as important as the person working it. It shouldn't even boil down to price, you should make your decision on who you would trust more with your expensive cars engine be it AMS or another tuner.

What he said.

I haven't seen the other tuner at work, but I have spent time with the AMS guys, both at the track, and working with them 'remotely' while my car was in the shop. I know what their expectations are, and I know Martin would never do anything 'unsafe' for my car for the sake of numbers.

Having been around the racing/track world for some time now, he is a true tuner, he understands each car, and can evaluate them effectively, without placing every car into one category.

For my money, I went the AMS route, and I haven't looked back. The car spools quicker, pulls harder, and is a hoot to drive. I have a brand new Magnum, which I could drive for FREE, but I still find myself taking my Evo everywhere, just because it is so much fun to tdrive.

I don't have the vids up yet, but my car with what Martin called a 'conservative' tune was breaking loose all four wheels at TGPR (old street tires) at the last event I was at. I don't mean a little kick out either, I am talking full-on 50 degree rotation, throughout the corner. Now, that to Martin, was a safe conservative tune. And he was right, I beat on it all day, turned lap times comparable to the track record there, which is unofficially held by AMS. Then, at the end of the day, I loaded up the car, drove 5hours home, with no burps, bumps, or lights.

A true track monster Martin has created for me in a neat little Clark Kent package for daily duties.

IX Flash Details?

I think the tool is VERY important. It relates to your overall goals and your future modifications. I'm talking about the Evo IX, so I'm comparing one vendor's flash to another. I have a lot of information on the Ecutek flash from the other vendor, but AMS hasn't really stated anything. I just want to make an informed decision.

For example, some vendors flashes come with an MBC to 'trick' out the ecu boost. I'm not a big fan of that, and was wondering if AMS smacks in an MBC on their tunes or if it's just a straight-up one-time flash or???

I have no doubt that AMS is great. I just want some basic info on how the flash for the IX works - I don't need a story on their tuning philosophy, I understand that.

I'm interested in getting an evo 9...I talked to a dealer today...and after I sell my car for what i'm asking for it... i'll be looking at AMS Stg. 2 and a flash after the car is broken in

What would be a guess at the hp/tq of AMS Stg. 2 and a flash?

I think it's like $750 for a custom tuned flash. I'm not 100% on that, but should give ya an idea before someone else chimes in.

About the dealer, yes it's been soooo covered. They could detect it if they really wanted to, not sure why they'd be looking unless you asked them to really dig into some error or complained about something. Do some searching on that.

AMS can always flash you back to stock in the case of going to the dealer. I think that would be a huge decision maker when thinking about who to get your flash from.

Also, the initial price of the flash includes a Ecutek licenseing fee, following flashes should be much cheaper as the licensing is a one time fee.
