Yes it does... and since you're new, I will spare you the expense of any other nasty comments.
It used to be a great way to tune your car depending on how much temperature your car would output, it is an indication of how lean/rich your fuel is burning. Now that wideband O2 sensors are more available, then that is more desirable.
Otherwise, it's another nice gauge to tell you how hot your engine is burning.
