HELP Version 1 vs version2 ams exhaust parts???

So i decide to install my used catback tonight . So my buddy and i unbolt the stock exhaust, get it off, start putting on the ams cat back. So we start bolting up the cat back, so far so good. I lift up the muffler tip whlie my buddy is tightening up the adapter part to the cat. I notice that the muffler tip is coming rather short, close to 3 inches short to be exact. My buddy comes over to take a look, and agrees that we must be missing a piece to the exhaust. I have done research on evom and found a few different pics of other people's ams cbe out of box (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=140564) and it looks nearly identical to mine.

I have done research and found that there are different versions of their exhaust which infact the TP is longer on the version 2 than the version 1 exhaust. I was wondering if anyone knows if the dp and cb on the v1 and v2 exhaust are different sizes as well? I would imagine that since the tp is longer on the v2 that the v2 cb must be shorter or the dp is. Can anyone verify this?I think i could possibly be having problems because my adapter is from a different version than my catback and that is why it wouldnt bolt up to the stock cat?

UPDATE!!

The dp and tp arrived and here it is perfect fit! AMS FTW!

sounds like the other DP may have been a little longer OR the test pipe is shorter. you are using the stock downpipe, where as the other/prior owner may have been using an aftermarket DP.??

The CB system for ams should be a direct bolt on to the stock dp and cat. From the pix he sent it looks as if he had the full turboback (which is what i am getting). SO i am not too worried about it since the ams dp is noticeably longer than the stock cat (which will hopefully provide the extra length i need. BUt it really doesnt explain why it was so short when i tried to install it last night.

Are there any welds where the exhaust might have been shortened to fit a JDM rear?

Nothing looks any different than the ams turbo back i see in other peoples pictures. No wierd welds that would make me feel like they did. The previous owner didnt have a jdm rear bumper either

Are you running the stock cat and down pipe? If you are, there is an small adapter piece thats enables it to correctly bolt up to the stock cat unless you buy a test pipe. If that small piece was not in the box, call Eric and tell him so he can send you one out. The same thing happened to me and I sell their parts.

Look closely and you will see the stock cat adapter piece attached

I think he has the adapter since he mentioned it and bolted the exhaust to the car. Otherwise it would be impossible to connect the two because the AMS Exhaust uses a Three bolt flange where the Stock Exhaust uses a two bolt flange.

If he has the adapter, it wouldn't come up short like he says. He says it is 3" short, which if roughly the length of the adapter.

I do have the adapter piece and yes it does come up short. As i wrote above, there are different versions of the ams exhaust, different versions have different size test pipes and my guess is cat backs as well. MY belief is that i have one version adapter with a different version catback, which is why it is 3 inches short.

Your best bet would be to give AMS a call. I'm sure Eric or one of the guys would be more than glad to help you.

I dont think they will be in till thursday or friday. I should be getting my dp this thursday, it will help answer a lot of questions. I just pray that the problem is just with the cat adapter and everything will fit fine when i try installing the full tbe... wish me luck

There are two versions to our exhaust system. When you get a second take some measurements of your system there and send me an email. we will get this all squared away for you

Yep, different sizes. I have v1 and they took care of me the next day after I found I was sent the v2 test pipe and it was too long

What are the differences between the two exhausts? Are the dp different sizes between the two exhausts or is just the cb and test pipe?
