Ta1 dominating in the Caribbean.

As many of you know our beloved TA1 Time attack EVO is no longer with AMS. What many of you don’t know is what it has been up to since it was sold. The new owner Mr. David Summerbell in Jamaica has been making quite the name for TA1 and AMS in the Caribbean. Recently he has competed in two races and the car has outright dominated. David Summerbell is also become our dealer for most of the Caribbean. You can reach him at Summerbell Motorsports in the Caribbean #876-931-6665 or from the U.S. at 786-269-0226

I have been flying down for each race since the car has left to help David’s team learn the car. I have changed the suspension and Chassis set-up for Dover Raceway, David’s home track. Dover is a tight, technical race track that really pushes the limits of anyone who competes on it. As demanding as it is it also allows no room for error with major elevation changes and off camber corners with no run off area. Every time we complete a session at Dover either as practice or competition we learn something new that shows us where we could bring our time down even further. As David learns the nature of TA1 at the limit, and his team and I develop the car for his track and driving style we’ll see even quicker times.

TA1 holds a pretty special place in the hearts of the guys at AMS and I know for many of you as well. We wanted to take some time out to breakdown the cars achievements since it left.

May 24th –Dover Raceway – Caribbean Motor Racing Championship

A little backdrop for you guys on Dover. It’s tight, it’s rough and it’s downright DANGEROUS! This would be the first track TA1 would ever see outside of North America. Another thing to mention about Dover and racing in Jamaica in general is that it IS A SPECTATOR SPORT! Thousands line the track to watch these races go down.

David was able to take TA1 out on track for his first practice session at Dover. This was the first time David had ever even gotten behind the wheel of TA1 let alone raced it competitively. It was in this session that David was able to break the JRDC(Jamaican Race Drivers Club) record for the track that has stood for nearly a decade. Previously a 1:20.9 the new record was now a 1:20.7. Oh yeah...that was also on LOW BOOST!! Not bad for the first time in the car.

In Qualifying David beat the record again now running a 1:20.3 and earned him pole position for the first race.

Race One:
He dominated the field to take first place in this race, not giving up the lead the entire time.

Race Two:
In the second race David again earned pole but was hit from behind by Doug Gore (evo VI) at the start. Due to the short and tight nature of this track normally being hit means your race is over, not for David. By the fourth lap David is able to pass Gore and again finishes first! Two first place finishes all in Davids first time behind the wheel of AMS TA1!

August 3 –Dover Raceway-Freedom of Speed Event

Not to be outdone David enters this race yet again looking to improve on his already blistering fast times at Dover. In qualifying David SHATTERED his old record of 1:20.3 with a 1:19 FLAT. He then backs that up with a 1:19.1. Hitting sub 1:20 lap times at Dover was thought to be impossible; David did it though…TWICE!

Race One:
David again started out in pole position and held first the entire race. He took first place in a seemingly effortless performance.

Race Two:
Some last minute rain proved to be too much for David’s tire choice. He was beaten by his rival Doug Gore who was able to suit his EVO VI with rain tires at the last minute. Despite the lack of rain tires and traction David came in second place.

Check out the amazing car control in this incredible slide! www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vWKJQxLbGI
Race Three:
Based on his finish in the previous race David was put at the back of the pack going into the final race. Over the course of the race David fought his way through all cars on track and was able to once again to take first place! Coming back from last to finish first place at Dover is next to impossible but David pulled off the impossible.

David Summerbell has pulled off four first place finishes in two outings and has broken the track record twice! He has clearly taken our beloved TA1 to new levels and continues to surprise us all with his talent and dedication to his sport. He is in constant communication with us and we continue to help him improve the car even further. AMS could not be happier with TA1’s new owner and we will do everything we can to continue to update everyone on Mr Summerbell’s and TA1’s latest endeavors.

Yep, its great to see that the Summerbells are still kicking but! I remember prepping a couple of his Rally Evos at TAD Motorsports roughly 10 years ago, he was unstopable then!
