quick question

I've been looking into lowering my car but since this is my first car i naturally have a question or two.

What exactly does a bumpstop do (i can guess but i'd rather hear it from someone who knows)
also when installing lowering springs do the bumpstops have to be cut?
when getting an alignment a week or so after the installation is it better to get mitsubishi to do the alignment or it doesnt matter where i would get it done from?

thanks for all ur help.

i didnt cut anything when i lowered my car. you can get an allignment anywhere u want as long as they have the specs for alligning an 08 lancer. alot of places dont have the specs yet cuz the car is too new. im sure you can find it online somewhere.
