Do you have a US bank account they can query? It would have to be the same banking system as the seller's bank's banking system. There are multiple ones I believe. And they might not have any legal power to seize your Canadian assets in case you default, so they'll likely reject immediately on that alone.

When I bought my car in the US, there were two payments options. Cash or Wire Transfer.
No certified cheques (unless I stayed there for two weeks for it to fully clear)
No money orders (unless I stayed there for two weeks for it to fully clear)

The US banking system is so weird that certain banks will not accept cheques that they themselves have certified. Every bank has their own rules. Every state has their own rules. Bank A operating out of State X could be run totally different from Bank A in State Y.

Fraud is super rampant down there. 1 out of every 100 Americans is in jail.

Best way to do it to the full amount here in your hands and then get the money transferred to the seller down there.

Good luck.

And if you don't have dual citizenship, financing probably wouldn't work anyway unless you have a pre-existing working relationship with that bank.

well i got 20 grand CAD in the account
ill have to get a loan here and send the money over but then with the crazy interest rates
with banks its cheaper/simpler to just get a new one here wit 0%

there are brand new evo x gsr i found for 28,000 USD out the door
so would it be worth all the trouble?

Well here in Ontario there are a few for sale on autotrader. GSR's are going for $38,888 and there is even and MR for$41,498. As for getting out of the states, as Evo_Soul said there would be ZERO warranty. As well keep in mind the cost for all this **28k usd is roughly $35,900+ Taxes when you come across (here is 13%) and then fees for importing, saftey and such. Then there is the cost of getting there to pick the vehicle up, either shipping (between $750-$2000 on enclosed truck) or driving(gas as well as some how to get some type of permit to drive the car without plates)
Honestly I would highly suggest looking into Ontario and BC before heading down south...
My two cents..

Here's something I put together for a fellow member in Ontario that was interested in importing a used CT9A EVO at one point. Not all will apply to you obviously. Hope this helps.

Let's say you pick up a $25K USD EVO

Automatically you have to pay...
25% exchange rate
5% GST
8% PST
6.1% Import Duty (since your car was not produced in North America)

and all of sudden you are at $36K CAD

Now, if not paying someone to take care of the importing for you, factor in...

one way travel fee down to US
hotel fees (at the very minimum, you are in the states for 3 business days)
gas
wear and tear on your car
DMV fees (for the temp trip permits) - one is required for each state and if you don't have it, they can impound your car
time spent gathering info for US and Canada Customs
paperwork fees (hundreds here and there add up)
hours of research/emails/phone calls (lost utility, lost wages, stress)
general stress
long distance phone calls
long distance faxing
internet cafe usage
lost vacation (utility)
time off work (lost wages)
software fix up for your car
mechanical fix up for your car ?
time without car
Canada Federalization pains
Ontario licensing pains (ie. SSC, e-test, DMV)

Ouch, man, they must hate Canadians. I've never ever heard of that, I've been out of state with a local permit plenty of times... That's really sad for you guys.

But, importing a car is almost always going to cost you more than buying one where you are. Otherwise all the cars would have equivalent prices everywhere. (Since there would be no import taxes, and all those other stupid fees)

But the warranty fact won't matter. If Mitsu Canada is anything like Mitsu US you don't have a warranty.

There isn't a hard and fast rule with temp tags but the general rule of thumb is, a temp tag for State X is only good for State X.

If you cross the border to State Y, you have to find the closest State Y's DMV office. And if it's on the weekend, you may be SOL.

I travelled with expired PA tags that the previous seller lent me.

In the case of a dealer, I think you're lucky! If the dealer wants your business, they may allow for you to borrow their dealer tags for your trip home if you mail them back thereafter.
Problem solved. That list is just a generic one and is really meant for the resale market.

UT_EVO: CT9A's were never sold in Canada. How's that for crappy? So we basically had to import them.

How does an X purchased at a dealership in, say, Montreal differ from one you might pick up in Calgary? Is there a difference? If not, then buy locally and forego these shipping hassles. If you use apa.ca, the price might be the same nationwide.

With the SoCal version of the X, yeah I can maybe see that you want MPH primary if you plan on living in the US yourself in short time. Or perhaps you don't want a mandatory Canadian
Cold weather package for example?

not worthwhile, given the current exchange rates. you have to pay duty 6% for the car, ontop of ur GST / PST for car purchases.
