New Evo Price + Charges
New Evo Price + Charges
Hi, I am looking at a new Evo GXR at the showroom and on the bill of sale, there are couple of charges/ fees that are common to all new cars (such as Freight, Pre delivery expense, admin fee, gas tax etc). But there are also 3 other charges (Nitrogenization, Security Etching and Wheel locks) that dealer is insisting are mandatory and there is no way I can opt-out from these 3 options. Is this true? Dealer is saying that these 3 options come on every car and is required due to Mitsuibishi Canada. Can someone confirm whether this is true? Thanks a lot for your help!
That's bull****. A dealer tried pushing their "security package" on me as well which contained similar items to that for several hundred dollars. They claimed they "strongly recommended it"... but did not force me to get it. If you don't want it... don't get it. They are just trying to make extra money off you.
I don't want to name the Dealer at this point since I am still talking with them. Sorry about this.
Those prices are absurd! $400 for nitrogen? Regular air is just as good unless you're planning to track your car and seriously heat up your tires. As for the wheel locks, that's a pretty high price for them when you could probably install them yourself. If you really want them, buy them from the parts counter some other time, or get them from elsewhere.
The etching deal is not uncommon for dealerships. It's a security feature that many put on every single car they get.
Having worked in sales, I know that sometimes these things are added to every car automatically, or they installed them on a sold unit and the buyer backed out. They are simply trying to recover their costs. There are many times though when the dealer has to eat the expense and sell the vehicle with the extras and not charge the customer for them. Either way though, they can't expect you to pay for something you didn't ask for. Tell them to take the charges off or you'll buy elsewhere. Chances are if they do remove them, the only thing they would remove are the wheel locks since the other ones they can't (or isn't worth it). Unless you specifically request it, you can't be forced to pay more than MSRP (with d&d, paint, that kind of stuff..) If you really want that specific car, just go to another dealer that doesn't have it, and get them to locate it from the one who's trying to charge you all that stuff haha

Get away from that dealership. The dealership that was trying to push that package on me was selling the ENTIRE THING for $500... and I thought THAT was a waste.
thanks everyone for your help so far. I would really appreciate if someone can scan their bill of sale (and remove all their personal info) and post it here so I am aware of what charges are mandatory before I go in tomorrow to negotiate the price. OR PM me. Thanks again!
I have looked at Mitsuibishi's Canadian website and they only show $250 Pre delivery inspection and $1350 destination charge.

Yes, as the matter of fact, i was dealing with the sales manager and he did not push me to buy any of those stuff even the extended warranty. He also gave me the wheel lock set for free. My bill of sale has only listed the vehicle with the handling package. i could scan you my bill of sale but i'm about to sleep. lol i will scan it tomorrow after work and pm you if you want to see it.
oh wait, did you want to buy the EVO that's in the showroom?? because if the car already has all those ''add-ons'' then i would think it's impossible to opt-out the price off the tag. you could always get them to find you another evo or just buy it elsewhere.
that is what happened to me when i first considering the STi, it has all these useless accessories and they won't take it off even if i showed interest in buying. i ended up walking out from that dealership. i'm glad i did
