Kayaalp is in Mosport
GTA ppl, Kayaalp (the guy with an Evo from Montreal) is in Mosport in bowmanville.

(this guy)
If any of you are free tonight, I was thinking of meeting up with him just maybe for a round of beer. He did offer a ride on the track on his Evo but that is during the day (now as I speak) and I have work. Instead, I suggested just probably extending our warm TO welcome to one of our Montreal buddies.
Josh (wolfman) is coming too.

Hi everyone.
Not to rub it in...but you guys missed a great event. 3 days of warm weather and sunshine. The Evo was amazing (as always). I was passing race-prepped M3's with ease even with worn-out old street tires.
I'll post more details (and pics when I get them) on the MCCC forum.

BTW: I really would have enjoyed a ride on the track... it sucks that I couldn't be there! Then again, I would have added a bit more weight to the Evo... so I'm glad I didn't hurt your performance!
Down with those BMWs!!!
And of course we want pics!!!

BTW: Don't try to pull one on us... your tires are so worn out they're like slicks! If anything, you keep them on 'cause you get a better contact patch!!!

Having said that, there's so much rubber on the ground and I've got the car so well balanced that it wasn't a big deal. But it was very frustrating to have to back off halfway through each session to let the tires cool. I definitely need to invest in some 17x8.5" wheels and proper track rubber. I'm looking at Toyo RA-1's in 255/40/R17.

Doesn't the Evo come with 235/45-17 stock? Why did you decide to go for 255/40-17?
Also, did you look at Toyo because you wanted mixed street/track tires? I always thought Avon (with the Tech R) and Hoosier (with the R3S04) would be good choices for track applications...
Of course, some of those tires might not even be produced at the sizes you are looking for.
I've read that the Avon comes to temperature more gradually than most other tires but then would also tend to stay more consistent afterwards... then again, I have never had the chance to witness this first hand.

The Hoosiers pretty much last a single track day. That's great if you're racing...but not really necessary for driving school use. I have no experience with the Avons. Not a popular tire around here.

Okay, so it's a compromise. I'm quite sure the Avons are of absolutely no use in the rain.
BTW: I think most teams in SCCA Touring Car use Avon tires... I might be mistaken though. But this would prove your point that those would be real racing tires... and you'd have to buy a set for each track day. For you, that would ammount to approximately 120,345$ in tires for the year...

So, how long do you think those RA-1s can last you? A complete season? If so, they seem like a very good choice...
[EDIT] I take that back... it seems Touring Car teams run on Toyo. [/EDIT]

They are that durable!?! How much grip do you have to sacrifice versus R compounds though?
