First Time at the Track

This past weekend I made it out to Great Lakes Dragaway for my first runs in the EVO. My best was a 13.20@106.21 with a 1.9 60ft. With that trap speed and a better 60ft, should I be able to get into the 12's? Ive read a 1.6 is a good 60ft, is this something to aim for? I dont want to rev it up too high on the launch though...

A 1.6 60 ft. is about the best you are gonna get out of it. I would aim for the high 1.7 or in the low 1.8s. How are you launching the car? My personal preference is to take the car to 4500 and do a quick slip with it. With this technique i get consistent low 1.8s. Sure the car is capable of much faster times but I want my t-case to last me for a very long time. Like you said with 106 mph u should be able to get in the 12s fairly easy.

I launched the car the same way you described at around 4500, I slip the clutch a bit and go. I also would like my t-case to last for some time so i think im going to stick with this and not rev up any higher. Hopefully 12's will be right around the corner and with cams also around the corner I think it should be fairly easy.

I do a quick slip at 4500rpms and manage an average of a low 1.8 60ft. So far my best with the mods I have is a 13.201 at 101.97...I have no top end.

My friend took his mr to a 1/8 mile track and was running 8.8 at 88,ph w/ a horrible 2.2 60 ft...

What about does that equal in 1/4 mile times???

My best at the 1/8th is 8.1 at 84mph. I think your friends MR, with that time would be in the high 13's or worst case low 14's. With a better 60ft he should easily be in the low 13's.

You should already be in the 12s even with that 60'. This is just really poor driving, and your mods should be giving you more mph. My stock MR hit 13.17@103.89 on my _first_ try but with only a 1.92 60' due to the 2005 neutral rev limiter. With the limiter bypassed now, I should be able to easily hit 12.9x with a decent 60' time (1.7-1.8).

You can hit 12s right now with some better driving, and unless you're missing shifts or shifting really slowly, you should check your mods/flash for problems.

You'd have to show the entire timeslip, because that time doesn't match the MPH. I ran an 8.4@80mph in the 1/8th en route to a 13.17@103.89 after a 1.92 60'. If he's actually hitting 88mph in the 1/8th, then he's capable of nearly 110mph in the 1/4, which is good enough for low 12s.

Woaaaa J Dog that trap speed is low, what's going on, stock EVOs trap higher than that. Has your car been tuned, somethings wrong with your car or your shifting.

I know! I'm working on trying to figure that out. I think it may be my major boost taper. I'm set at 20.5 and it tapers almost to 15 by redline. I just picked up a hallman mbc so I'm hoping that solves that issue and hopefully get me at 13.0 or 12.9. There are no boost leaks and I have been tuned. It's definitely not my shifting at least I don't think, I'm rather quick when I do shift.
Then again last year when I was stock the highest I trapped was a low 98 other than that I averaged 95-96mph.

Really poor driving?? I think you should read the title of the thread..."FIRST TIME AT THE TRACK"...its not "look how good i did" and ive seen you post soo many times your 13.1, you must be real proud of that. I was looking for someone who traps above a 103, maybe a 106?? to give me an idea of what I could run my next time at the track now that Im getting the hang of launching the EVO and taking it down the strip. I used to drive a FWD mx6 so its a whole new beast and in comparison to some other EVO's at the track that day I did fairly well. Good thing you mentioned I might be missing shifts too, I never thought that would slow me down, next time Ill double check to see if I miss a shift... thanks captain obvious. If any one has something positive to say or has trapped a 106 and can let me know what their time was, thats what I intended the thread to be here for. Thanks.

Uh, I was just pointing out what was holding you back. I wasn't flaming you for poor driving. My 1.92 60' indicates TERRIBLE driving. I was VERY disappointed in my driving, because I have 8 years of AWD experience and have never done worse than a 1.82, and that was only when bogging on accident.

My point in what I was saying is that you are capable of much more and that 106mph is good enough for 12s with very little effort. 103mph is the standard cutoff for 13.0 in an AWD, so a 106 is not only an easy 12.9x but is capable of up 12.6 with excellent driving. Hey, you may think missing shifts is obvious, but your ET/traps don't make ANY sense, so there has to be something wrong unless you can explain more than 2 extra mph with a slower trap on the same 60'. Another guy was posting his times and was only gett 14.0s with 2.2 60's, but he didn't know why. He pointed us to some videos, and the first thing I noticed was that he missed his 3-4 shift. I asked him about it, and he was like, "Oh yeah, I think I did...," etc.

Lastly, I'm not so proud of my times, because my mph was good for 12s, but I wasn't good enough of a driver to make it happen. Even a DECENT 60' would have netted me a high 12.9x, but I couldn't figure out the launch limiter. What I _WAS_ proud of was how well the car performed. I didn't actually know it could do 104 so easily in stock form.

You could easily be in the 12's with that trap. Just work on your launching and shift VERY quick. I ran a 12.67 at only 105.62 mph with a 1.76 60ft so it is all in the launch. I don't know where everyone else shifts but I found I ran faster if I shifted early, 6900rpm, than if I shifted late, 7000-7100rpm. Hope this helps and good luck!
