Drag Rules w/trunk battery

I am considering going to a track day on the 17th. I have a 2003 Lancer OZ with a turbo kit installed. My battery has been relocated to the trunk. Now, are there rules which I need to conform to with the battery being in the trunk? I heard I need an external shutoff switch. Is this true?

You need to have the battery vented to the outside at least. I think you only need an external shut off if you run faster than 11.99 in the 1/4 ?

According to Sec. 8:4, you need to have a master shut-off for any battery that has been relocated, regardless of e.t. I never liked the idea of a kill switch hanging off the back of my daily driver, so it's always stayed in the factory position.

Yes, all the above is true and you must have a shut off switch. The tech inspectors would not let me race until I returned with a shut off switch.

Hmm this is odd. I went to the track and not a word about this to me. I guess I was lucky they didn't know my battery was in the trunk.

I guess I'll go and see if they will let me run. I plan on going any ways to watch a friend run in a T3/4 powered Prelude. If they don't let me run, I'm just going to buy a mini-battery and put it back up front. That will be cheaper and easier in the end then getting a regulated battery box for the trunk.

Also don't forget about the cost of the shut off switch and the installation fees if you don't do it yourself.

They don't check under the hood or in the trunk at Capitol for Test'N'Tune. You only have to worry about the battery replacement rules at real competition events where they do a more thorough tech inspection. I'll see you there on Friday...

Well, I won't need a shut off switch if I move it back up to the engine compartment. So it will be a lot cheaper than the battery box and shut off switch (who the hell would pay someone to do something this simple?).

I was reading the rules for the street event coming up. What does NHRA safety equipment required for ET as required? I mean I only have a regular Lancer OZ with a turbo kit, and I doubt I'll break into the 14s because this is my first time to the track.

Actually, the event is at Mason Dixon on Saturday. Unless my friend was talking about some event at Capitol on Friday, but I'm pretty sure he was talking about the Street Competition at Mason Dixon.

Well, you said the 17th, which is Friday, so I assumed Capitol. Mason Dixon has their test'n'tunes on every Saturday in the middle of the heat, so I avoid it unless I have no choice...

Do the rules specify where the shut off switch needs to be. Can we mount it under the licence plate and take the plate off after showing up at the track?? I really want to move the battery to the trunk but there is no way I am mouting a shut off on the trunk lid.
