6-speed vs. 5-speed 1/4 mile times

I didn't know if this should of went in drivetrain or general..... I would like to know of some of the fastest 1/4 mile times that the MR 6-speed cars have been. Most of the evos that are quick are the 5-speeds. If someone can give some top 1/4 mile times for the 6-speed evos it would be greatly appreciated. I am currently trying to make a decision on which drivetrain to go with.

Thanks

Or the Drag Racing forum where all this information resides.

Fastest known USDM MRs:

- TTP-Engineering = 11.75 @ 117.xx
- Dr. MR = 11.8 @ 115.xx
- Warrtalon - 12.000 @ 113.7x

These are all on the stock turbo and are at the limits of what 4th gear will allow. I couldn't get past 111mph in 4th gear on the stock rev limiter (7600rpm), but then had it bumped to 7800 and went 113.7 without hitting the new limiter yet. TTP has its limiter up to 8500 and is going over 8000 to hit those 117mph traps. Not sure on DR MR.

There has supposedly been one other MR that went 11.7 on the stock turbo then 11.4 on a GT35r, but we never saw any timeslips and have no idea what MPH he went...nor where he set his rev limiter in order to achieve these ETs or MPHs.

If you're serious about drag racing and plan to go low 11s or better, then you probably want the 5spd, since it can go much faster in 4th gear. YOu want to avoid 5th gear at all costs...

Evo Ix's(5 speed) redline in fourth at 107 mph so it is probably very similiar to the MR in fourth.

Damn, that's right, I forgot. The IX 5spd is very similar in gearing with the 6spd, so my suggestion above is ONLY IN RELATION TO THE 03-05 5SPD!

So since i am going with an evo 9, it wouldn't make much difference which way i went?

No. Actually, 5th gear in the 6spd will be more useful than it is in the 5spd, but if you're shifting to 5th in the 1/4, then you're probably not going to do to well anyway. This would be more of a benefit when road racing.

5th gear in a IX is slow. It does not start pulling hard again till 120

But it wouldn't matter for 1-4th gear on the drag strip?

Right. As I said, this would only benefit you when road racing.

Our 11.75 & 117.90mph were both accomplished in 5th gear. Lets get to the "truth".

Well, whatever. If you don't divulge information and make people guess all the time, there's no way we can keep up with the "truth" as it pertains to your MR. Regardless, the 6spd is still limited by gearing.

The results are going to be overwhelming. You will find out that 98% of the fastets Evos are 5 speeds. That has a explanation, the MR(6 speeds) sales were about 1% of the total EVO8 sales.

My analogy is : There are 99 white men and 1 black man in a ship. The ship sinks and there are casualties. What is the the porcentage of the casualties?, Mostlikely more white man perish.

Sorry about the analogy but the EVO 8 with 6 speeds are Maybe 1% if that. Unmistakengly there are going to be 99% more chances that the fastest Evos in the roads are the 5 speeds.. if aint white is black!!

Amongs the the Evo 8 MR owners there are only a hand full that modded them and a a very limited amount of them that run below 12.sec in the 1/4 mile.

I would have to say that either or is good. You should focus on other important factors rather than just the 5 speed vs 6 speed. The difference in the 1/4 mile in the 5 speed vs the 6 speed is insignificant.

Not many want to make a full racecar out of a +$8000 base car. You are more prone to see RS models in that status.

Can't we all just get alone? hehe sorry guys continue with the Bashing

As far as the MR goes I was very supprised the difference the MR has to a GSR 03-05 in the eighth mile. We have one around here running 8.1 in the eighth and it is all gearing.

This gearing change probably has a pretty big part in why these stock evo9s are in the 12s. I know on my wrx when I put RA gears I picked up 2-3mph in the trap speed just from the gears
