Good tires for drag racing?

Interesting you say that, Matt, but I've been seriously contemplating this. I've been using the stock Advans from day one and have managed to cut several 1.6s, but the fact is they have a very stiff sidewall for great cornering and handling, which is NOT good for drag racing. Then, I see so many cases of people cutting these awesome 60's on all-seasons and snow tires, then saying, "but I only had all-seasons!" Well, maybe it's the soft sidewall that allows flexing when launching, so as long as they actually grip decently, they give a good 60'. This is important to me, because right now I have Blizzaks on my 2nd set of rims and full race tires on my BBS rims. I thought I was going to have to get a new set of street tires, put them on my 2nd set of rims, then hit the track, but maybe I should try the snow tires. I'd just hate to get out there after all this time waiting and find that my snow tires can't hook up whatsoever. Dilemmas...

Softer side walls , easyer to spin I dont know what it is but some ppl are pulling some great 60's with them .
Warr give the snow tire's a good day at the 1/4 and see what you think , I know my stock tires could not do low 1.6's with me driving

Yeah, my best is 1.66 on the Advans, and that's only if I got a perfect launch that had 0 spin and 0 bog. Most of the launches have a little spin or a little bog and end up as low 1.7s. Then, I hear these people say they spun all through first, but somehow got 1.65 or better, and it makes no sense. My boy smoothmarine is a prime example. He's only been to the drag strip a few times and never really did better than a low 1.8 or high 1.7, but then suddenly nails a 1.61 with his Dynoflash 2-step and Conti all-seasons, haha. 1.61 is incredible!! If I had a 1.61, I'd already be down to 11.95, so I'll give the blizzaks a try. Evofunk also did this on tiny 205/55 snow tires and hit a stinkin 1.70 en route to a 12.0@114. Crazy...
IIRC I did 1.62 , 1.67 and 1.67 last time out (on the 1.62 i was shifting to high out of my powerband +7000rpms if i had shifted like i should have...well you know the rest) . I had ppl coming up to me telling me how bad i was spinning and rear wheel hopping (but i could not feel it in the car).
I guess what happines is the front spins for a foot or two then the center diff locks up and off we go , weeeeeeeeeeee

Best all out performance tires in stock size for every day use, Advans.
For daily driver use wet, dry and comfort, quiet and long lasting, Michelin PS2's are the best well rounded tires and provide a scary amount of grip when pushed very hard. The stock size is mushy, go to 255/40R17's and they fit like a charm on stock wheels. They offer enough lateral grip to get the car onto two wheels, enough wet grip to do the same, and wont break drivetrain parts on the drag strip, they aren't THAT sticky.
They Pilot A/S is where its at for all year long stuff.
Best for drag racing on modified drivetrain, Nitto 555R drag radials BFG G-Force Drags
(Nittos will be the only tire that Japanese racing organizations recognie as a legal "street tire")
Best for ***** out cornering performance 1) Advan A048 or Toyo RA1 or Toyo T1R, 2) Nitto NT01, 3) FALKEN RT-615
Race on total drag car, Hoosier slicks or M/T slicks.
I drove Michelin PS2's for a long time. I got 30k miles out of them and they're awesome still, I kept them as spares. I use the Pilot A/S' year round, in the wider 255/40R17 they have enough grip, enough stiffness, enough of everything but nothing overly exciting.

. Right not I'm running Semperate snow tires with an H speed rating. I wanted to see what Bushcur's GT35R would do, but it had to rain
. That's some interesting 60' time info though.
