Drag vid from last year - 12.26 on 93oct

This was my only attempt with my mail-in flash on straight 93oct. I did one run, was satisfied, then added race gas and proceeded to run my 12.000 on the next try. This was on the last open day of the season, so it's the last time I had a chance to do any drag runs. This 12.26 is slower than my 12.000 vid, but it just seems so much better. The launch looks faster even though the 60' is a little slower, and you can see the car I'm beating much more clearly. I didn't get the vid until recently, because the original files are so big that EvoFunk had to give them to me on a CD last month. The quality of the original file is excellent, but too big to post unless someone has a place to host.

Hopefully, the quality isn't degraded too much by YouTube:

How were you launching than? Do you seem to launch better without the launch control. Nice run too, thats fast.

That was how I always launched at every drag strip. I didn't get the launch control flash until after the tracks closed, so I've never used it on the track. After the clutch goes in, I'll be finding out if it helps me do lower 1.6s and do them more consistently...or that it doesn't help me at all. Considering my buddies have gone out and used it to go from high 1.7s to low 1.6s with very little launching experience, I think it will help me.

I'm still trying to get the hang of launching. I've watched several of your videos, and am trying to figure out how to get rid of the drivetrain slack when I launch. I know how to do it, I just can't seem to get it right.

Yeah, it's important to do that step so that you don't shock the drivetrain. It takes getting used to, but you basically load the system by slowly applying some clutch to your high revs. Once the clutch engages, it pulls out that drivetrain slack and starts to roll you forward. That's when I really hammer it...and you can see that in this vid quite clearly.

That track looks weird. It looks like its down hill from the mid point.

Are you revving the motor at all on your launch? It sounds like you wait until the 2nd or 3rd light then just give it gas, let out the clutch a bit, then go.

I don't rev until it's time to go, but I do rev it up to around 6k right before I apply clutch. It's based on feel, so it's hard to explain, but the vid shows it in pretty good detail.

Nice vid. That track actually does look like it is downhill in the video lol.. On a side note, I wanted to ask you why your ACT only lasted as long as it did, what is wrong with it, and how you liked it..Seems weird it didn't even last you a race season and I'm sure you don't drive like a jackass on the street. I'm still on my stocker but will be replacing it as soon as it starts to slip which I am guessing will be shortly, just wanted to get your input as the ACT was/is one of my options..

Well, Petey, I can't say the ACT was bad, because during that 9500 miles, I did around 100 drag runs, 40 autocross runs (with drag launches), and 250 minutes of road racing. Yes, I drive normal on a daily basis and don't treat the clutch poorly, but it gave out after all that racing abuse. It did give me problems at the beginning with the whole 7k lockout thing, which sucked. I then adjusted the clutch rod, which allowed me to shift at 7k again, but put my clutch pedal up really high, which made driving annoying. Then, after a while, the lockout came back, so I had to adjust it again, but I ran out of threads, so I couldn't adjust it any further. Shortly thereafter, it started slipping.

I'm going with Exedy next, and I recommend you do an Exedy Twin HD if you don't mind biting the bullet. If you notice all of Trevor's accomplishments with minimal mods like us (DragNRacing), he's done everything with an Exedy Twin from the beginning.

Interesting feedback on the ACT Warrtalon. I also went to an ACT clutch and have had all sorts of lock out issues. I thought it was my tranny that was causing all the issues, but even after the dealer replaced all of the synchros the problem still occurs sometimes. I just recently moved the clutch pedal all the way out to see if that gets rid of that occasional lock out. So, it sounds like this is definitely a clutch issue, and not a tranny issue.

Sounds like all of the other ACT's I have ever owned lol. You have to adjust them perfectly to get them to work in all conditions, almost to the point of pre load. I remember welding a nut where the rod actually threads through the linkage to get about another .25 inch of adjustability..

I was either thinking of going with RRE's no name clutch and Stock MR disc and just replace as they go, depending on how much of a ***** it is to replace. And, of course the Exedy, but thats alot of change for a clutch..

Are you doing the clutch swaps yourself or are you taking somewhere?? I have not trusted anyone to do major repairs on anything I have ever owned since I was 18. I have had horrible luck with having other people do work on my engine/drivetrain, and even when I get something small done (like tint) something always seems to happen to my cars ( dents, scratches) in the hands of other people, I guess I'm cursed.

Try adjusting your clutch master cylinder rod for more engagement, usually works like a charm..

Petey, I had to have the dealer do the first one, because at the time, no shops knew how to deal with the 6spd and ACD. Also, the dealership was taking it apart to see if I could maybe be covered under warranty (7500 miles), but we all pretty much knew that wasn't going to happen, haha. Once they pulled out the PP and flywheel and saw that both were mirrors, there was no question that I had abused the living hell out of it, so then they installed my ACT. The Mitsu Master Tech did Evo/DSM jobs on the side, so I was happy to have him do it. He had also just returned from a 2-week course learning about the MR 6spd and such.

Now, for this one, I'm having my local shop sponsor do it, but if we have trouble bleeding the ACD, I may go have the dealer do that part afterwards.
