First time ever to the track!
First time ever to the track!
Well, I finally made it to the track this evening. The track was Edgewater Motor Sports about 30 minutes West of Cincinnati, OH. My buddy also brought his 03 C5 or C6 (can't remember) Vette. He just had a lot of work done to it.
Just a note, my car pulled 263whp on BR's Mustang Dyno, and I've never done this before. Here's are my times!
1st Run:
R/T - .261
60' - 2.028 (< I know... Terrible)
330 - 5.643
1/8 - 8.576
MPH - 83.11
1000 - 11.125
1/4 - 13.252
MPH - 106.44
2nd Run:
R/T - .281
60' - 1.822
330 - 5.404
1/8 - 8.319
MPH - 83.34
1000 - 10.854
1/4 - 12.970
MPH - 107.01
3rd Run (It was sprinkling and spun all 4 wheels)
R/T - .217
60' - 1.878
330 - 5.463
1/8 - 8.421
MPH - 82.26
1000 - 10.963
1/4 - 13.080
MPH - 107.07
Vettes Best run was 12.930 (Damn he beat me and he's going to brag)
Well, I think I did well considering this was my first time. I think the car is capable of better times but I need more practice to get there. Would love to be able to get mid 12's one day with what I have done.
Any feed back on the times would be greatly appreciated!

Your trap speeds seem very low for a cammed stage 3 Evo. We need more details about your runs. shifting points, track conditions, gas type, boost, etc. You should be trapping 114+ with thise mods. You should be able to pull some low 12's outa that setup. Not bad 60's for your first time though
You have a long way to go for the mods, but how many people can say they ran 12s in their first trip to the track? Not many.
I was lucky to do the same thing in my first trip ever to the 1/4-mile strip - I ran a 12.9 on the first try with my Talon, then ended up with a best of 12.63 by the end of the day. You will improve with practice, so keep it up.
Also, be sure to join us in the Drag forum next time. I already reported this to the mods to move it, so if you see it disappear, then just look in the Drag forum.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys. Here's some answers to the questions asked:
I was running 93 @ 22psi. I didn't touch the tire pressue which I know now wasn't the best call. (What psi should it be set?)
1st run I only reved it to about 3500rms (< too low, explains 60' time and 1/4)
2nd run, I reved it to 5000 and had a much better 60' & 1/4 time.
3rd run, I think I would have had a better then 12.9 time but I had some wheel spin out of the hole because it was sprinkling.
I don't have launch control.
As far as shift points, that's where I screwed up on the first run. I think I was running the rpm's too high (2nd = 62-65 / 3rd 84-85). I thought about this after I saw my slip and shifted a bit earlier on the second run. I still need to figure out the right shift point though. Feedback on this?
My own personal thought is that I'm missing some power up top. I still kick myself in the butt for not getting the 272's over the 264s.
Track conditions were ok - weather was about 65 or so. Not an expert on bad from good tracks yet. First time ever going to one.
Thanks again guys!

Thanks Warrtalon. You gave me some feedback once and I remembered to take the spare tire out of the car! That was at least .03 off my time! Difference between a 13 and a 12 in this case!
I missed the drag forum. Thanks for the update! I'll check there for further feedback.

We can't tell you the proper tire pressure or shift points, since that will depends on your car, your tires, the track, the weather conditions, your power, and your launch method. However, if you're spinning, slowly lower pressure by 2psi at a time. Be sure to start out no higher than 30psi.
As for shifting, with those cams, I'd say 7200-7300rpm, but you have to find the optimum shift point. If you look at your dynograph, you can probably get a good idea.
Lastly, whatever power you're missing up top is not due to getting 264s. Yes, 272s CAN make more power up top, but even 264s should have you trapping well over 110.

What part of Cinti are you from? My first time out in my '03 Evo at Edgewater I ran a 12.7 with nothing but an exhaust, mbc, and base Dynoflash. Your Evo definitely has more in it. My 60' times were around 1.7 every pass without even touching tire pressure.
Broeli,
I'm out in Mason..
Damn, a 12.7 with just those mods. That's amazing! I know it's my driving ability right now but with more practice, I'm sure the times will get better. My shifting sucks so I need to work on that the most.
Based on Warrtalon's feedback, my tire pressure was WAY too high. I'll need to fix that problem next Sunday (29th). It's Import show car day and drag. You should tag along. If I don't have someone to run with, I'll have to bring my wife!
Let me know!

Well lowering your tire pressure will help you get traction better but it wouldnt help your trap speeds. Somewhere you are loosing some topend. What rpm's were you shifting at? Have you checked for boost leaks? My car last year would trap 108 with just MBC, TBE, intake, and flash and that was at 2200ft elev.
