Stock Evo 9 - First time at the Drags

hey guys,

Went the drags tonight and ran two bad 14.5 and 14.6 sec runs. I was launching by slipping the clutch from about 3500 rpm. So my third time I dialed in at 14.00 and launched from the rev limiter and got:

R/T .508
60' 2.081
330' 5.75
1/8 8.857
mph 77.67
1000' 11.562
1/4 13.84
mph 99.15

My launching needs to improve a lil to bring down my 60' time. I didnt get a chance to ran again because I beat my dial in time.

3500 is for FWD/RWD cars, not AWD. From now on, don't launch lower than 5k. You will get much better the more you practice, but 99mph in a stock IX is a bit disconcerting, since that's slower than stock 03/04s.

wow I run a 14.09 at 105 stock at 4500 feet above sea level they dont provide slips here in el paso this place sucks for drag racing and the track sucks but its the only one there is for hours so im stuck here. You should disconnect the rev limiter!!! that helped me out

Get a boost gauge and check your boost.

Got a boost gauge and there is no leak, just my first time doing it. I didnt get a chance to try again cuz of my dial in time.

The boost gauge won't tell you if there is a leak. It will just tell you where you're boosting currently. You need to do a pressure test to ensure there are no leaks.

Ok well do you really think that is necessary? I know alot of stock 9s with rookie drivers running 13.8-14.2. I really believe that this is driver error and I will be going back in a couple of weeks to try again.

Your ET is driver error, but your MPH is power error. Doing a pressure test is not a big undertaking. You don't have to do it, but even if you drove perfectly, you aren't going to get a very good time with a 100mph trap speed. Again, that is average-to-slow for a stock 03/04 Evo, which have about 40 less whp.

I have a 9 and my first time I ran a 13.10 so its totally driver. if u launched right you would do 13. I got help from people here and at the track and run 12.7 now. with a tune who knows maybe low 12 cuz my AFR is 10 to 1 .. well that's as low as the wideband goes lol. but u will get better dude. if u listen to some of the dudes here

Sesso, he's not going to hit a 13.0 or 13.1 while trapping 99-100mph no matter how well he drives. Trap speed dictates your potential - driving dictates whether you reach that potential or not.

I think you guys are treating my run as if I excuted it perfectly. I may have bounced off the redline in third or shifted to slow. Hell I dunno, a friend ran a stock 9 and traped 102 with a 13.8 as well and a 2.0 60 ft so I dont think im that off. I appreciate you guys thoughts and hope to improve my time in a couple of weeks.

Not really. 60' doesn't affect trap speed that much.

Slow shifts will affect trap speed, though. Maybe that's the problem...

His shifting is very good, it appears, if you look at his ET and trap with only a 2.0 60'. He at least shifts .2s faster than his buddy.
