Just got my EVO...Hi everyone

Just wanted to introduce myself and get a bit of advice. I just bought an EVO, used, and while I like the fact that it handles, and I've done my share of canyons in it already, I'm in Texas now, and it's all about going straight, so this is the forum I figure I'll be spending the most time in. I've got a few questions for the more experienced folk.

It's your standard AMS GT35r, stock shortblock car. Put down 493 on C16 on a DJ. My first time out at the track on C16 I ran an 11.9 @ 121mph. The trap and the ET don't seem to match, probably cause I'm having alot of trouble hooking up. Do you guys run drag radials? I'm looking into a set of Mickey Thompsons. Can I fit a 275 on the stock wheel?

Second question, the 1/8th mile track here forces you to drive through the waterbox. I've been doing quick burnouts to clean off the tires. Is this ok? Super bad for center diff?

I hope to be in the 10's before too long. If I can best an 11.4 I will set the track record for an import. Hope to be seeing more of you guys.

Congrats on the ride. Did you get the car with the turbo kit in it or did you add it? Welcome to Evom.

Hey man welcome to evom! What 60fts are you pulling and what tires are you currently using?? A set of MT dr's would be great but a 275 is definetly to large for the stock 8in wide rims. There are some guys that run a 255 on the stock rim, but that will be the max.
Personally I use toyo ra1's and love em, very sticky when heated. They are more of an autocross tire but I really like them.

Sucks that you can't go around the water box but a quick burnout shouldn't be to bad, just gotta be careful seeing the stock front diff on the 03/04's are a weak link so any sort of strees can cause them to fail easily, like long burnouts and high rpm launches especially with the power your making!

Good Luck!

What RPM are you launching at? What are your current 60ft's? This would help, so we can give you some advise.

The tires are, IIRC, Sumitomo POS's... I can make fairly consistent high 1.6s on the 91 tune, but when I bump it up on C16 I can't get out of the 1.7s.

I have an XEDE...but no two step...so I launch between 6 and revlimiter. It seems like almost anything else has been bogging down the car.

Everyone out here says the 275 would work. Camaro and Mustang tires are 8in and that's what most of them run. This guy that owns a tire shop out here said they would be fine if all I did was drag race on them.

I bought the car modded, I'll I did was have it tuned at tuning technologies. They did a mighty fine job.

275s do not fit on 8" rims. 255s barely fit - the tires hang over the edge. Sure, go ahead and get ready for a Shep tranny.

I'd not only save for the tranny but a rebuilt t-case with a quaife diff, just my 2cents.

Alright. I've got a friend out here with an 03 cobra. We're gonna see if his wheels fit this evening.

Yes they do. I don't have the link on hand, but do a search, the title of the thread is something like "Cheapest Track Wheel" or something. They've got pics of the cobra wheels on the EVO and the EVO wheels on the cobra.

And I would've had more pics for you, but apparently the guy who last torqued my lug nuts got a little happy with the impact. I broke a 3/8" craftsman ratchet trying to get them off.
