Rip apart my 1/4 time 12.7@105

hey i wanted to see what you guys thought about my 1/4 and what i coudl do better to improve. In first gear i was shifting right before redline(around 7700) and 2 and 3rd i shifted at around 7500. and my launch control is set to 6000 rpm.

my time was

rt. .636
60' 1.710
330 5.196
1/8 8.093
mph 85.35
1000 ? wasnt on ticket
1/4 12.759
mph 105.89

the only thing that dissappoint me was my 8th mile time. all my other 8th mile times were around 8.3 with this 8.0 being the best. My buddy in his wrx can hit 8.0 in the 8th mile. Is this a normal time for an evo 8?

o yea later that day i ran 12.8 with an extra body in the car (200lbs) so im assuming i can do a little better with my time?

mods are in my sig

1) Redline is 7000. 7700 would be closer to your rev limiter. That's way too high to be shifting on a stock turbo.
2) 7500 is also way too high. You need to shift around 7100 - by 7500, our power has dropped off significantly on the stock turbo.
3) The launch is good, so keep doing that.
4) The ET and MPH are very poor for your mods.
5) The ET is good for the MPH due to good driving (nice launch and quick shifting)

Go back and shift at the proper shift points, and I think you'll see a 2-3 mph increase in trap speeds and maybe drop a few tenths in ET. However, that would still put you well below where you should be for an VIII with 272s.

His 60' does not suck. What are you talking about?

Many people never even get down to a 1.71. The best part about his timeslip is the 60'...

I had similar mods in the past and ran a best of 12.4 @ 110 on the stock clutch, but it wasn't the same exact setup so there are alot of variables in there. I had the basic intake,TBE,cams, mbc, tune (340whp/360tq - dynojet), just as a point of reference.

People have run 1.6s and occasionaly a high 1.5 on the stock clutch. Perhaps he could improve with an upgraded clutch, but that's the least of his worries. As I said, the 60' was the best part of the timeslip, so it should not be addressed until many other things have been addressed.

alright, ill give new shift points a try next time im at the track.
all my 60fts were around 1.7 and 1.8, first run of the day i pulled a 1.73 but ran 13.5 until i started playing around some more with where to shift.

if i do go to the track again and try the new shift points and they arent up to par with les say a regular 8 with my mods. what should i looking at? tune could be better? or my choice of who to go with for mods not the greatest. Also forgot to add that i had my tire pressure down to 25 all the way around cause i was spinning the ****ty fulda elites.

thanks for the advice.

btw what should be expectted from an evo 8 with my mods?

1) Your mods all look fine except for the Skunk2 exhaust (why in the world would you get a Skunk exhaust on an Evo????) and the Greddy BOV. Even though those are not recommended mods, I doubt they are causing a big loss of power.

2) If shifting at 7000-7100 doesn't make the car significant faster, then you probably have a mechanical problem or boost leak. I doubt the tune is causing a big loss of power either. Even if it's not a perfect tune, it wouldn't be causing you to be this far off.

3) A stg1 Evo + cams should be making 310-330whp on a Dynojet, which would be no less than 110mph traps (and up to 113). With your driving, that would be low 12s (12.1-12.4).

4) The 25psi is fine for reducing wheelspin. When I hit 12.26@110 on stg1 mods (no cams), I had my stock tires set to 22psi or so. It sounds like you have terrible tires, but in terms of drag racing, soft sidewalls aren't a bad thing, so I don't think they are a problem right now.

the exhaust was the first mod i got for the car and i was real antsy to get one and it was the only exhaust the local shop had, and i didnt want to wait for one lol. and i bought the greddy bov for the ams tune day cause i broke 2 stock oem bovs days before the tune and i didnt have time to go search for an oem metal one.

ill be sure to do a check over my engine bay for boost leaks & etc. next time before i go the track

Do listen to Warrs advice as it sounds like you will. If chaning your shift points doesn't improve the time, and you have no boost leaks, then I would consider logging a bit of data to see if your getting enough knock counts towards the big end that it's pulling timing. This is on pump gas I assume?
Oh and your 60's looks good, ignore ol' John Force there chiming in about your sucky 60'.
