Yes, read the other thread right next to this one that was moved from Evo General. He said he's rebuilding his trans, since 3rd gear hardly works, but he went to the drag strip anyway. His profile says he's 17...

I was there. I drove a couple up friends of there in my IX just to watch. I personally wont run my car for a few reasons, its new and hardly broke in, I have never launched the car, never practiced, and know I am NOT ready to, and I don't have the extra cash to fix it if something breaks. I saw three of the runs. I know I was embarrassed and it wasn't even my car. Had to try and explain to everybody I was with that the Evo is actually a very fast car. Worst part of the experience? The red turbo CRX that ran high 14's that beat you was parked down at the end of the track near my car. As I was walking to it to leave, the owner/driver could be heard yelling at the top of his lungs " I beat a f-cking EVO!!!" now that made me want to crawl up in a ball and dissapear.

Hearing this would make me ashamed to own an EVO.......

COMMON sense... racing... SHIFT AT REDLINE. racing... SHIFT as fast as your silly arm can do it. be quick with your clutch foot too. when you in the car practice with the car off. puoshing the clutch in and shifting fast. when your at home in a chair practice there too. get your footwork down. its not that hard.

IF you can use the stock launch control, you get staged floor the car have it bouncing off the set limiter, slip the clutch fast, almost just a slow release(dump). and you can adjust from there but thats an easy start, you wont burn the clutch and you will take off pretty quick.

if you dont have the launch control, a VERY VERY easy way to do it... once your staged(practice this before you get to the track tho) rev your car to around 6,000rpm then then let up a little on the gas, and hit it again. so what your doing is bouncing your RPMS from minimum 5,500rpm to around 6k, if you go higher thats fine. but you dont need to go higher than 6k ( NOTE : if you go past 6,500 your going to risk burning up the clutch if you dont release it fast enough so i suggest not reving that high with you lack of skill) . so once your staged bouncing your rev's from 5,500 - 6k and its time to go(lights go) start releasing your clutch, as soon as it starts to grab release it all the way and at the same time floor the gas. this is probably the simplest way to get a close to failsafe hard launch. i dont think you will see worst than 1.9 60 foot unless you ride the **** out of your clutch and burn it up. a stock to lightly modded evo will not spin the tires enough to get worst than a 1.9 60 foot, so if you release the clutch to fast while reving to high, YOUR GOING TO GO FAST. lol you wont spin the tires that much and you will launch hard.

launch, and shift fast at redline. if your having a problem with 3rd gear, if you just shift it slow like you were driving normal but shifting at redline, and shift fast the rest of the gears, there is no reason why you wont run at least low 14's high 13's.

i believe evo's should never run slower than 13's.

and i dont understand why you arent driving your car. if you dont have experience, ITS YOUR CAR, next time your driving to the store, anywhere, pefer finding a open parking lot or something but ****, find a stop light and launch! next time your getting on the freeway practice going full throttle to redline and shift 1st to 2nd gear fast, then 2nd to 3rd and then you can ease up cause youll be at freeway speed. but at least you get to practice racing style shifting without breaking the law. there is no excuse for lack of experience, its your car you should be driving it and getting better everytime you do.

You live you learn, takes a bit of finesse to get the launch correct and bang through the gears.

Wow. I ran a 15.0 @ 98 in a 96 FWD Eclipse GST with 230 FWHP rolling out, it was like a 2.3 60 ft, cause the car had bad motor mounts and a bad diff, so you could not launch safely at all, and this was at 3100 ft. Wow. The cars owner did 15.8-15.9 and he was 18 with NO skill. I would think you could just roll out and run a 14-15 in an evo.

This is the funniest sh*t I have seen in a while.

COMMON sense... racing... SHIFT AT REDLINE. racing... SHIFT as fast as your silly arm can do it. be quick with your clutch foot too. when you in the car practice with the car off. pushing the clutch in and shifting fast. when your at home in a chair practice there too. get your footwork down. its not that hard.

Man its about time someone said that. If you just take off slow frm the line and then nail it and shift quickly at best, you should have done WAY better.
